they don't currently have a documentation page. but it's pretty simple
it works exactly the same way as extra settings for anything else except you don't need to specify the path. just put it in the episode folder.
you can look at a recent script that used it here viewtopic.php?t=30228
oh yeah, that's exactly what i was looking for, thank you! i was too tunnelvisioned on the raw user data editor for npcs that i hadn't considered there might exist extra settings files for these

when i load a 38A or Xtech built level, the editor cursor keeps on with the loading and loading and i cant do anything not unless i remove the editor.
i know it wont work with different branches of SMBX but i would like to address it so that none will ever experience this again

You're trying to open these in the editor? I haven't heard of this issue before. I checked with Wohlstand, the original author of the PGE/Moondust editor used by X2, and he said it's possible that this bug was fixed in the file format library, but that the fix is not included in the X2 version of the editor by Emral.
If you can name the exact content you tried to open, the X2 team can take a look at what's going on here.

hi guys so uhh heres some advice from me: do not use map3d in a world map filled with SMW tiles or tiles that imitate the height illusion. It breaks that immersion so i'd rather make use of it for SMB3 or anything that is not imitating any height illusion (aka the SMW tiles) it just looks very janky doing so.
btw, the game would render sceneries as popping out from the tiles so waterfalls are already broken because of it (not unless someone does some code to workaround or change the original, idgaf i dont know how to code so idk). Also, some custom graphic levels might not load properly (considering this was probably implemented in B4/3 afterall this is old code.)
Also, i have a really bad time trying to make heightmaps because of where the height is going to be and what size would it be (depending on the heightmap's loading coordinates) it could be my problem but wished there was like a button for this in the world map to show where the height map will be and what tiles/sceneries/paths and levels would be affected
also if it isnt much or possible is it possible to make another section filled with a looping block and a different skybox? (ex. Lava filled world with a red and dark grey on the lower part skybox) and is it possible to also load a image for the skybox? (like a cave opening, ice land... much like how SNES Mario Kart did)
TL;DR: map3D dosent work very good with SMW tiles only use it with a SMB3- ISH map, sceneries and level render problems blah blah blah can you make different looping tile and skybox based on a section like the camera on some recent SMBX episode if so is it also possible to load a image replacing that skybox like SNES mario kart blah blah blah ok thanks

Yes, it does.
First off, apologies for not responding until a month later. I wasn't checking the forum. However, it doesn't seem to work for me when I try to open it. It lets me install it but won't let me open it.
It just says: "The program can't start because api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem." Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

see if it is fixed by running the vc_redist.x64.exe included in the smbx2 download. the missing dll can be caused by not having microsoft visual studio c++ 2015 redistributable installed, which this file will install for you.

Hi emral and the SMBX2 dev team
First of all, thank you for all your hard work. The Beta 5 update is massive the features, the fixes, the new additions… it truly shows how much effort you all put into this.
I have a few questions I'm curious about:
1. Did you build all of this by yourself or do you have a full dev team working alongside you?
2. I noticed that updates seem to come out every few years. Is there a fixed timeline like every 4 years, or is it more flexible and depends on progress and testing?
Also, I just want to say: keep it up! You’re doing something wonderful for the SMBX community. I can only imagine how exhausting and complex it must be to keep polishing such a big engine. But know that your work is truly appreciated.
And of course, special thanks to Redigit for creating SMBX in the first place ,and thanks to all of you for keeping its legacy alive through SMBX2 .
Cheers from a big fan

For some apparent reason I can't even install it on here. I've had this problem many times before when trying to play other games. I've looked up hundreds of tutorials on yt but they are for either windows 7 or have automatic updates, which no longer work on windows 8.

Haha maybe! But either way, the work done on Beta 5 is impressive and truly appreciated. Whether it's Emral, you, or the whole team you're all legends in the SMBX community .

SMBX2 Beta 5 credit should go primarily to Emral, Hoeloe, and SaturnYoshi/Sarn. MrDoubleA and Rixitic also contributed.
Future versions will be developed by a new team, including MegaDood, MrDoubleA, and myself (see viewtopic.php?t=30098&start=40#p404911 ). I hope we'll be able to live up to the legacy of previous versions! There isn't any assigned release schedule, but the development cycle for the next version hasn't begun yet.

discovered a bug where snake blocks that are wider than they are tall will move at unpredictable speeds when hitting up/down redirectors. this seems to have a very easy fix (make your own copy of snakeblock.lua, go to line 204, change data.width to data.height) but i figured it's worth notifying the team about regardless

There is a bug where when i am not playing as link or anyone else, the tanooki sprite when generated by those things in Soda Lake in SMW (forgot their names) It will pop up look like a pendant which is only link exclusive and then it turns into a normal tanooki suit as normal
