If you're going to donate to the ALS Association, then donate directly to it. Even if it claims to use the proceeds as ALS research, where is their proof that it will? And who is doing the research exactly? I don't mean to sound like a bigot, but who, associated with religion specifically, would be researching, scientifically, ALS research? Just saying.

Again, don't send your donations to a third-party, especially ones that have little to not information on their website regarding where the proceeds will be sent. If you want to donate to a cause, donate to its source. Although the ALS Association may spend their money on different things (such as public education/awareness), at least 27% of the proceeds to directly to the research, and at least all of the proceeds are still helping the Association in one way or another. Besides, the challenge originally was to donate to the Association, not the research itself. Just thought I'd let you know that.

I'm sure there are multiple legitimate charities for fighting ALS, not just one specific one.

Knowing that clicking the donation button wasn't automatically gonna sap the dollars from my urethra, I clicked it and it's just a link to another site. This "third party" you're talking about never actually touches the cash.
Not that that matters. I'm not one to accuse Dr. Stephen E. Fry of being religious just because a religious third party linked to his site, but his research is nonetheless based on a hypothesis that isn't considered proven by the medical community.

More like avoid social networks :P.

I was thinking someone smart enough not to do something crazy would do it in the shower with clothes on. But I don't really like the ALS ice bucket challenge that much.

It's risky to do. Too much ice can kill you. There was some school staff at my school who done it.
