I think fear of the dark is a common and innate human fear, even though it is irrational, simply due to evolution. What I mean by this is that people are instinctually afraid of the dark because historically, the dark is a mysterious place that only certain predators can see well in, making it dangerous. Of course, as I said, it's a pretty much completely irrational fear in the modern day. I wouldn't say that I'm afraid of the dark in general, but to some extent, aren't we all?
