Can we use custom texture packs?

Good to hear that this is underway. Minecraft servers are great.

I'd like to suggest:
•Using Skype to talk to each other with Mics as a nicer way to get communicated across better than the in-game chat.
•Enabling keeping items after dying? I always play Minecraft on peaceful because I HATE losing my items.

Neither are necessary, just personal suggestions by me.

One of the problems I see with Skype is the 25 user limit per group. I would probably look at using Ventrilo or something of the sort, but then again I always have problems running two servers off of the same port, but it's always worth a shot. If I do set up a Ventrilo server, there would most likely be different rooms for the different worlds (Survival chat, Creative chat, PvP chat).

Also, I might make it so people keep items on death on normal survival, but have them not keep them on PvP, though I'm not entirely sure at this point since I haven't even gotten around to making up the actual framework that I would be working with.

Since I would be using Bukkit to host the server and utilize all of the plugins, I'm looking at a currency system of sorts, Townie would obviously use the currency system to buy towns, housing lots, trading, all of that side stuff. Some things could be purchasable, like a guild/clan in PvP, a custom chat room in Ventrilo (possibly for PvP guilds/clans?), a custom banner or username, anything of the sort.

There will be WorldEdit. And I don't think a race is necessary. Whoever beats the Ender Dragon first just beats the Ender Dragon first.

IIRC, skype isn't limited to 25 people, except for group calls (not exactly sure if that was what you meant )

That was what the conversation is about. Besides, why would you Skype with just one person on a server mean't for the whole community?

You learn how to use plugins like Townie, Bukkit, Essentials, and all that good stuff and you could turn your server around and make a profit if you post the server to planetminecraft or something.

I already know how to use Bukkit and Essentials, hosted servers with those plugins before. Townie is definitely something I'd had to look into, since I've played on servers with it, but have never really ventured into plugging it into a server.

Me and two other people I know in real life are working on a full custom texture pack. It will take a month to finish but once enough of it is made can I import it?

I am not putting up any "official" texture pack for the server. You can use it at your own free will, but keep in mind that the server will be using the default Minecraft textures, so something you build with your texture pack might not look as pretty in the default Minecraft textures.

It takes planning. Dedication. I speak from firsthand experience as an owner of 7 servers.

Plus, I'm pretty sure the server will be hosted on an MC-hosting host, as home-hosting isn't exactly the safest idea in terms of security. Again, I speak from experience.

It's going to have to be home-hosting, as much as it isn't safe. I've done home-hosting before on my server, and I've had no problems with it. I don't think anybody is going to go and screw around (I don't think the majority of this community knows how to do that type of stuff). I'd love to have an actual server host do it, but that's a monthly fee that I'm afraid I can't pay, hence why I suggested a donation box, but I'm certain it wouldn't get much attention paid to it. (haha puns)

I'd only go to that kind of hosting if you're going to invite other people to the server outside of this community.
