Before SMBX I used Super Mario Flash and Mario Builder a lot to make levels and even after I found SMBX and even after I found it I still used Mario Builder mostly because it had enemies in the editor that weren't in Super Mario Bros X and I thought were never going to be until SMBX 2.0 came around. I also did a bit of Mario Worker cause it came with Mario Forever (still one of the best Mario fan games in my opinion) although I never really made that many levels with it. The recently I decided to go back and check out Super Mario Flash and surprisingly it's getting quite a bit of updates although it just doesn't seem to compare to SMBX when it comes to level editing and physics.

I made half of a level in SMF but that's about it tbh

Super Mario Flash for a bit and Mario Worker (which is the editor of Mario Forever)

I found SMBX thanks to the latter and a primarily Mario Forever oriented youtuber who made a LP of The Invasion 2.

Super Mario 63, Super Mario Flash 1 & 2 and Mario Builder.

Super Mario Construct and Mario Editor both don't count because I used those after finding SMBX.
