You'll save Toad and Luigi, as they don't need stars to unlock. Then you'll head to the world 3 (and you'll need at least 16 stars to enter. Here you'll save Wario and in the world 4 you'll save Link. THEN you'll head to the next world (5th) where you will need 32 stars and there you'll save Rosalina, in world 6 Peach. Mario and his friends going to collect (at least I guess) 48 stars and they can go to the final world! Yeah!

Yep, you explained it quite well No, "Reign of the Gatekeepers" has a different plot and world mechanic. As its creator, I would advise you to play it (and perhaps even Let's Play it?).

Yes, that's right. In the meantime, I'll be planning the overall level design of the 7 worlds before starting with the actual level editor.
