I thought of this idea in the Discord chat

This looks awesome!

I really like boss rushes, but most of the ones in SMBX kinda suck... I'm glad there's still people who can make boss fights more than just reskins.

So much for the demo being out on the 20th...

Side note, perhaps we could get a Boom Boom that makes the ceiling lower every time you hit him? (And make the ceiling have spikes cuz why not)

EDIT: Sorry for double posting

Could so something like that. Just having a few setbacks in terms of things like the HUD and a special world map thing I wanted to do as well as just some general stuff that would make the levels playable from beginning to end. Hopefully that'll be sorted out by next weekend

What about SMW Borderlands and that other Kaizo project you were working on?

SMW Borderlands most likely won't come back (might next May when I have two months off if I decide to) since it was more just a classic, not very unique episode. The Kaizo episode is still in the works and will be out in the next year probably.

Also in terms of this episode, I wanted to tweak some stuff, add the menu, and a few more levels before the demo. The tweaking has taken a lot more time than I thought but has done some great stuff to this

Looking at the screenshots, we have a flameshooting one, one with vines and a goombashooting one. Good, but not great so far. Also, what did that SMB3 castle wall block do to you that you have to abuse it like that :O? This has potential. Looking forward to seeing more.

A demo is coming. Have you felt it?

Anyway, below is basically some of what I've been working on to precede the release. Just configuring stuff like the world map, linking levels doors, etc. so it shouldn't be long now.

Cool. I assume this is why the release keeps getting pushed back?

I knew what I wanted to get done, I just overestimated how much energy I would have during the last week of my summer job (which was last week) and underestimated how much polish I wanted on this release. Other things like homework and preparation for a music performance I have to do also take precedence

The demo is here and I'll keep this short. There's 8 battles to play through hubs and world map, a special menu, and some other fun stuff. Feel free to look at the "__Changes to Implement" text file to see the known issues and things that will be added in the future.

Here it is: https://www.dropbox.com/s/7lkslr07bkbqi ... n.zip?dl=0

...along with some new screenshots:
Spoiler: show

EDIT: The plot will come later where you will find out the history of Boom Booms as well as much more! Also at this point please don't record any of this as some things are bound to change drastically and there are still bugs to fix as well.

EDIT 2: The error that made this unplayable and a few others have been fixed as of Aug. 31

Hey pixel, I tried the demo, but apparently there is an error in your lua code, specifically line 239

Here we go now: https://www.dropbox.com/s/7lkslr07bkbqi ... n.zip?dl=0

Fixed another few things while I was at it. Enjoy!

(I also played all of the way through it right after I zipped it up and it is definitely working)

That one on the left looks really tricky. Also, you should update the OP with these pics.

It actually isn't top bad as there is telegraphing to indicate the boss's attacks and when it rotates the direction is based on the player's position as to avoid crushing the player.

Also thanks for the reminder. Completely forgot to add them

i have a question, this level
Image
Is the same as this level without the smoke
Image
is it like you have the copy level with the same boss fight just with another feature like the smoke, or was it a mistake and there both the same level?

The latter is just an updated version. I'm going to hopefully release the next demo by Monday and clean up some stuff, including the screenshots
