I like to think of retro meaning "old but cool."
I'd probably say MKDS (that's pretty old, right?) and Super Mario Advance (basically SMB2 with minor changes, such as an uglier palette, but still fun)

Super Mario RPG was funny and kind of dark at the same time. If they had gone into further detail about what I think were Smithy's intentions, they wouldn't have gotten away with a family friendly rating.

Mine would have to be Sonic 3 and Knuckles. Actually scratch that. It is my favorite game of all time. I remember playing it alot as Tails when I was a kid. I won't forget the barrel segment though. *Shudders*

I would not say that Diamond and Pearl are retro - they came out in like 2006. I would say that "retro" games are approximately 1996 or earlier - pre N64/PS1 or so. That's what most people would say it was, I think.
On that note, Yoshi's Island is probably my favorite game on the SNES.

Actually they came out a decade later.

Retro-games are those that pertain to a discontinued console. Pokemon D/P/Platinum could easily be considered retro since you guessed it, the Nintendo DS is a discontinued console.

Excuse me, I meant 2006 when I wrote that. Fixed the original post.

I liked the 3-D ports of some of the well known Sega Genesis/Mega Drive games, (Example: Streets of Rage 1, Sonic the Hedgehog 1 & 2, & Gunstar Heroes)
