It seems perfect except for one thing. The mini mushroom doesn't have a slower jump and a slower fall, it just makes Mario small and jump higher. This is going to be so great! I wish it wasn't such a hassle to install though.

I hear it's not actually an update to the original smbx, but a complete rewrite. Lot of the physics on it are off, and there are some weird limitations with the graphics.

in so many ways, it's like an update but in other ways it feels like a rewrite. it's hard to say personally. the physics just feel like they were modified to be more like an actual mario game honestly.
The executable is much smaller (1.4.1: ~1.08mb, 1.3.0.1: ~7.17mb) but that could just be because they switched to PNG graphics? Who knows honestly, it's really interesting though that's for sure.
Also, the renderer is now using true DirectX instead of ActiveX so that could contribute to how graphics are handled and what not
