Welcome, you might have better luck finding someone to play online with by giving the proper version of SMBX and joining the community Discord.

Hello, I am James, also known as OfficialJC12 on SMBX forums. I am a not-so-average high school student that is at a residential school most of the time. I come home usually every 2 weekends, besides school breaks and holidays. I love designing Mario levels and I hope that will be my career someday.

I tried getting an account at PGE forums (found at wohlsoft.ru), but it didn’t work for some reason, so here I am now.

You should go check out my YouTube channel called JC12official. I have lots of SMBX videos and a variety of other types of videos. I mostly use SMBX 1.4.4.

I have been using SMBX since April of 2012, but found it on YouTube about 2 months earlier. I downloaded the original 1.3 version after it got taken down from the official website. It is very rare you will be able to find that again. I have been using SMBX 38A since August of 2016 and been using it ever since. So I am definitely not new to SMBX. I just didn’t have a YouTube channel and a screen recorder back in those days unfortunately. I was only 9 back in the very beginning of the SMBX era of my life. I barely knew SMBX when I started using it and I didn’t even know the basics, such as level boundries. I didn’t know about custom graphics until many months later while playing The Invasion 2, and by 2013 I had most of the graphic packs downloaded and I was a level design master.

That may have been the beginning of my SMBX life, but that isn’t the beginning of level design for me, oh no no no. I have started playing New Super Mario Bros. for the DS on my older sister’s DS when I was 7 years old. I think it was May 2010. I was so bad at it, but with enough practice, I was able to play the game better. After watching my cousins play New Super Mario Bros. Wii a couple months earlier, I was able to get that game for my 8th birthday. I wasn’t that good at the game at first but after watching walkthroughs on YouTube about after a couple months of having that game. I was finally able to beat most of the game but I loved it so much that after watching a couple custom levels, I wanted to hack the game, but I didn’t know how, so I found a flash game called Super Mario Flash a little before Mother’s Day 2011. I used it so much before a new flash game called Super Mario Flash 2 was released in October or November 2011. I started using that over Super Mario Flash until I found out about SMBX and I started watching custom levels on YouTube. I was so excited when I found out how to get it and that became a new era of level design for me. I did use some other things as well as SMBX before I turned 10, such as Mario Builder and SMB Game Master, but I just switched back to SMBX after getting to know those level editors.
