"I mean, we've come this far, so there's no use turning back now. What's the worst that could happen? An eye demon jumping out of the trapdoor?" This was certainly a strange situation, but stopping halfway just seemed... wrong to Vardo.
"However, we'll have to be careful - I have a feeling this whole thing is way bigger than we initially thought."
He took a look at the floor diagram, then back to the carpet. He was certain this is where the trapdoor has to be, so he moved the carpet, hoping that the diagram is not misleading.

"This is a new one..." Robin muses, drawing one of his swords and stepping closer to the carpet. "Could be fun! Let's do it."

Moving the carpet reveals a trapdoor, just as you had suspected. Upon opening, it reveals a rather dark pit with a wooden ladder extending into the darkness.

"My my. Looks like it was true after all." Robin laughs, being the first to make the plunge into darkness. With the ladder. He's not completely dumb.

"Alright, very well then. Be careful, everyone," Hilda said before lighting a torch and following Robin down the ladder.

At the bottom of the ladder is a rather circular room built up with stone brick, similar to that of the bottom of a well. There is a wooden door here that seems to be suffering from water damage.

Hilda, insisting on going first to protect the others, attempts to open the door.

By this time, Khiana had climbed down the ladder with everyone else. She had collected the fleetpoint lore book, as well as a few other papers that she found interesting. She was right behind Hilda, candle in one hand and a dagger in the other. No real need to have it out, but if there was a spider or even a giant ant, she wanted to be ready.

Following the other three, Vardo descends down the staircase as well. He knew that something must be wrong here, so he followed Khianas example, drew his Rapier and put his Lyre in the other hand. "Remember, we have to be prepared for the worst! Who knows what this shaman dude is plotting down here. He most definitely has something to hide!"

Pushing open the door, the light from your torch spills out into the room beyond. It's rather large, with bookshelves lined up along each side of the room, brimming with books old and new. Across the way is a large desk facing the wall, with a figure slumped over in a chair at the desk. A candle on the desk has nearly been burnt out, and its light casts wicked shadows onto the walls.

"Hello?" Hilda asks, whispering instinctively in such a dark room.
"It seems that person is still alive," she says to the others. "The candle is still lit - they must've been... awake at that desk not long ago. This may be our sage." She approaches the desk gingerly, waiting for the figure's response. Nervously, she checks for undead creatures in the area using her paladin training - something about this place feels off.

As you approach the desk, you certainly notice something off about the person in the chair. Coming up next to them, you see it is a rather frail-looking old man, breathing heavily, and likely paralyzed. Running up his face are black, vein-like streaks, and his eyes are almost completely clouded. He looks at you, surprised that anyone had come down here, and he weakly attempts to sit himself up straight.
"Why have you come... traveler?" He coughs out, slight droplets of blood staining his gray beard.

"We're an adventuring group, I suppose," Hilda says, sizing up her new allies. "I am Hilda Moonstone of Dorme... the dwarven village to the south." She is careful to clarify the location of her village in case the man is unaware of it, given that it was missing from the map she took from the desk. "We came from Fleetpoint seeking answers about the strange happenings we witnessed in that city. Local church officials advised us to find you... at least I assume it was you, sage? And... you do not seem well. Can I help you? My faith empowers me with the ability to heal any disease."

Robin patiently lets the conversation between Hilda and the supposed sage go by. It wouldn't do for him to intervene, he knew that much.

The old man shakes his head, wiping his mouth with a rag. "I am indeed the sage they directed you to... but I am sorry, there is little I can do to help, and there is little you can do to help me." His expression is rather solemn, yet sincere.
"The people of Fleetpoint... they have a secret that I can not tell you, though I suppose you could find it in my old notes." He ushers to the piles of papers and books strewn about. "I'm sure you will find something of use here..."
He leans back in the chair, staring blankly at the wall in front of him. "I advise you to leave before the sun sets, however. I do not know how much time I have left before I become... one of them." He looks over to Hilda, fear in his eyes. "The Blood Coast is not safe. My wards have been slowly deteriorating over these past few years, and I can not keep the evils that rest here at bay much longer. Warn the people of Fleetpoint, tell the head of the church that I have passed on... I can not come with you, not without risking the safety of a thousand innocent people." He relaxes in his chair, coughing up a bit more blood, and still breathing heavily.

Hilda nods silently, and begins investgating the sage's notes. "Thank you," she says to the sage, eager to find out who "they" are who the sage mentioned. She begins investigating the notes for any mention of Fleetpoint's secret, and urges her allies to do the same.
"And you're sure there's nothing we can do to help you?" Hilda asks, with great sympathy for the clearly diseased sage. "If there's any chance of saving you from whatever this is, I won't leave you behind."
what time is it on the Blood Coast, approximately btw?

Result: 11.
Skimming through a plethora of notes, you fail to find any that mention any secrets related to Fleetpoint, although you do recall some notes that Khiana managed to find that had to do with a cult in Fleetpoint.

The old man appears to be drifting into unconsciousness every now and then, but he shakes his head gently. "This is no disease that can be cured... I brought this upon my self anyhow, I should never have stayed here..." It isn't until now that you notice what the old man has been staring at on the wall; a large map, made from what appears to be cured leather, bearing the northern half of the continent. Several pins have been stuck into the map in various locations, though the significance of these locations is unknown to you.

As you were entering the shack, the sun had just set.

"I, uh, don't mean to make things sound bad... but the sun has already set." Robin deadpans. "It was going down when we came in, remember?" He reminds the group, slowly walking backwards towards the ladder. He wasn't about to stick around if things got hairy.

"I don't know what this sage is afraid of... It could be something horrible, but we need to find out what is happening in Fleetpoint or this will all be for nothing. Please, everyone, look through these notes quickly for anything related to Fleetpoint!" Hilda is greatly distressed as she sees her allies starting to leave without her. "As soon as we find what we need, we need not even read it here, we can take it back to somewhere safe. And at the very least, the city of Valmar to the east seems to be regarded with great importance by this map. Perhaps we can go there to investigate all this further. But first, please, let's try to find what we're looking for in the sage's notes! It won't take long, and there didn't seem to be any immediate danger outside when we came here."

Robin sighs. "It's not like threat is outside. I'm willing to bet it's right in here." He says, looking back up the ladder for a moment. "But fine. If we get killed, I get to say 'I told you so' in the afterlife." He grumbles, stepping forward again. And with that statement made, he starts investigating the notes himself, but at the same time he's ready to make an escape with as many of the notes as he can carry.
