Our upgraded forum software is something more specific than just phpBB. The medals were gone when we upgraded the forum software

Is there any hope that we'll ever see medals return again? I hope so, cause they seemed like a really cool idea.

I don't think the staff have neither the time nor the patience to look for an achievement system again just for newer users to potentially abuse it.

It would still be a really cool addition to the forums and would actually encourage people to post meaningful stuff instead of just posting more.

Although my stupid self would still say that there's no chance of finding something like that, it actually would make sense to because we'll get more activity on here. I've seen some forums like that which get tons of activity, while the ones that don't are often dead. i still dont know where theyre gonna find stuff like that

There's plenty much other factors to how much a forum succeeds in terms of magnitude and activity. This place is satisfyingly active and still stable. We're still here after nearly 8 years, after a couple of times that the SMBX community was declared to die out soon.

I would second some sort of new badge system if it was possible to happen. I wouldn't include any awards on quantity of posting, only quality (and that can be subjective at times to determine who would deserve a "helpful user" or "forum contributor" award).

quality over quantity right?Well maybe somebody will make those on their own, like, create an award to put in your signature or something like that. An admin making an award for someone because they fall under those qualifications, because I haven't seen any forum software yet that can do that on it's own.

Medals won't come back until there's a stable phpBB extension for it. SMBX and MFGG both run phpBB, but SMBX runs 3.1.x and MFGG is still on 3.0.x. Back when we ran 3.0.x, we were able to have things called "MODs", such as medals and rep, but 3.1.x now uses a system of "extensions", and to my knowledge there's no stable medals/badges extension yet.

Out of curiosity, why did we upgrade in the first place?

Hopefully in the future, a medal extension will be made. A rep extension would also be cool

If possible and considered, upreps only please. No downreps as we learned from experience.

What happened with downreps?
Also, off topic, why was the old levels forum arquived?

People abused downreps a whole lot towards users who were unpopular (for whatever reason), most notably in the SMBXxer witch hunt in June 2014.

I've seen that happen on the PGE Forums as well, so maybe just upreps?

A new system was switched over to, requiring a whole new format for topics

I'm sorry to repost this, but I thought that this topic was deleted, so I'm making it right.

So, I was thinking, that even though SMBX 1.4 is quite popular nowadays, I think there should be a couple changes before this forum accepts it fully.

1. It needs to be open source so that it does not act like SMBX 1.3 did in its last days, and how it was not touched for over 5 years until LunaDLL was finally made.
2. This would also help with more frequent bugfixes and updates.
3. It needs to have some things like secrets removed and some stuff like the "Idiot! You only downloaded the exe, try again!" text changed. It's good that the minigames only lock in-development features, but that's where they should remain - in a development version. Changing these things would make it more "polite" to the user and intimidate them less (or is it only me...?)

Thank you for reading.

I can't remember my exact thought process but I know we had issues with global announcements that were fixed when the software was upgraded. It would've been done sooner, but upgrading required me to redo the forum theme so that it was contained in respective files on the server, rather than a template cache stored in the database.

Is this the mod we used to use?
https://github.com/satanasov/eventmedals/tree/3.1-1.0.1
This branch seems to have 3.1 compatibility. It says "event medals" but the topic here mentioned adding medals to a user's profile, so it sounded like the right kind of thing to me.

I hope that's the one. I'm not sure though because it's phbBB3.

This. A dislike button is completely archaic and serves no purpose. In fact, to prevent further competition, I think we should use a "per post" like system (if this is possible in phpBB3)
