There's no reason I'm aware of that SMBX 2.0 wouldn't be able to run on Windows XP.
That said, running XP while connected to the internet is basically asking your computer to commit suicide. There have been no security updates for XP for a while now (and there aren't going to be), so it's essentially undefended against attacks and other nasty stuff.
Windows 7 is not expensive. I really recommend getting it, if not a later installation, if you're still running XP.

I guess I'm gonna have to wait about a week before I can test it. I have time, but SME2 looks really good and I can't wait to play it. My laptop (with Windows 10) is somewhere I can't get to for a little bit, so I'm not gonna be testing for a bit because of it. Still, I wonder WHY Windows XP isn't supported anymore.

I have one question. What are the future plans for this game? In terms of features characters etc.? I'm most curious. If this was already answered you can point me in the right direction, if not I'd love to hear what is in store for this gem of a game. Thanks in advance.

I'm pretty sure there'll be more characters (I've heard that there are plans for Sonic and Kirby at some point, as well as seen some stuff with Donkey Kong) and more blocks and NPCs when the arrays get extended (due to Redigit's programming, there has to be work done to get around the limits; some more standard NPCs that are missing are coming I'm guessing, along with NPCs for the character projectiles I think I heard as an idea at one point, as well as some more Misc blocks and NPCs from various games like Megaman and Metroid, now that we have some of those characters). In addition to the last point, the power-up array has to be extended as well, but after that's done I think more power-ups will be available too

Windows XP is unsupported by Microsoft because it's 15 years old. Maintaining an operating system requires money, time, and resources, so it's not possible to continue maintaining all of them indefinitely.

@Pixel and Otane Thanks for informing me of what maybe in store for the future of this game. I'll be around frequently albeit lurking since that's what I do mostly. I totally look forward to what nice new stuff will appear in future updates.Good luck and thanks to everyone working on this.I hope to see you all succeed.

As far as I know Windows XP works? I know we were specifically maintaining support for it for a long time since Quill still used it.
It might be an issue with your graphics drivers being terrible and out of date for XP. Like, maybe they don't support anything near the required OpenGL extensions, particularly if you're using an onboard video card instead of a decent one made in the last decade and a half.
So it might be an issue of "your video card manufacturer not supporting XP" more than "us not supporting XP." If I had to guess based on the lack of information provided.
To be honest, I'm not really sure of the details either and I haven't really had time to look. I was considering updating anyways, but sometimes that's expensive so I haven't really bothered yet.

I got Windows 10 for free. I am pretty sure the offer ended though.
On topic: I fell in love with the new editor. I can place the blocks in new spacing options, and it made things really convenient for me.

You can get a copy of Windows 7 for about $25 or so, roughly. Windows 8 or 10 will set you back a bit more, but 7 is about the price of your average BluRay. If you can spare the expense, I'd recommend 10, if only so you don't have to do the same thing again in a few years time.

Does SMBX 2.0 work on Mac? Someone over on Talking Time can't get the engine running on theirs.

I have two questions. Firstly, what does the glide block do? Secondly, what would happen if we edited lunabase.lua?

Custom costumes are already available.
Put your costume inside a it's own folder in the costumes folder.
Just make sure all the files are .png or it won't work.

Ok: Why doesn't the PGE Editor let me play levels with the new characters? I hit the block, and it makes a spring sound and I don't transform. Why is this?

That should not happen. Are you using the right editor? The one that appears with F5.

Quick question, how do you access the shop and cheats of the game?

I'm not using the original one, the new one for 2.3

Shop is only currently only on Wario. Accessed by pressing shift as them.

Yeah, on PGE editor there are multiple testing modes. The new costume blocks should work on one of those.
