Oh yeah, and there's also going to be a demo at Best Buy in the US around E3, apparently. This is going to be incredibly amazing. It's good to see Nintendo caring about its fans.

I just noticed that I've never posted here. Hmm, strange indeed. Well, I'll just type a brief synopsis of a character I'd want in SSB 4.
Spoiler: show
lip_for_ssb4_by_elemental_aura-d6cti4p.jpg
Can Nintendo please include Lip, the Fairy of Flowers, from Panel de Pon? Sakurai has been testing the waters since Melee with Lip's Stick, and Lip's Theme was even featured in the Pictochat stage in Brawl, along with some stickers based on characters from the franchise. Smash Bros. needs more females in its roster, yes, but it also needs someone to represent Nintendo's puzzle genre. So, why not choose the main character from the most successful puzzle franchise who just so happens to be a woman? While including Dixie Kong, Kiddy Kong, and K. Rool would be excellent (and necessary in my opinion), my vote's for Lip.

Now, some of you may be thinking, "But wait, noble Super Luigi! People will look up her dress, just like what happened with Peach! Oh, and she's only a little girl!" To that, I have a solution. Just give her bloomers to wear and the problem is solved! Plus, if we can beat up Ness, Young Link, and Lucas while abusing animals (Pokémon), fighting a girl shouldn't be a problem. If you want more arguments for Lip's inclusion, check out this topic on smashboards, written by Young Horsetail. He (She?) has developed many reasons why Lip should star in the next Smash Bros. game, including some I've never even thought of. Personally, I could list most of them here, but I want to give Young Horsetail credit. Plus, embedding a link is easier! Even if her item, as seen in the link, is confirmed to appear, I'm still rooting for her. After all, Samus and the Screw Attack have been in multiple games together!

I've seen this topic already, I'm a member in Smashboards (I have the same username as in here) and I support Lip 100%. Her dress is no problem, characters seems to have just black voids instead of underwear this time. Unfortunately, Lip's Stick is confirmed to return as an item. This does not deconfirm her, but lowers her chances greatly.

This is really sad. Lip has the potential to be a really fun character.

She literally starred in a single game. In Japan only.
Wow she's the epitome of popularity.

I don't think anybody was going to say any such thing.

Ice Climbers is also a game that was released internationally.
Ice Climbers also had a lot of potential gameplay wise, with there being two of them. It was a small innovation in the series to control two characters at once, something that has been unique to them since their introduction.
Panel de Pon literally got changed to a Yoshi game during localization. And I don't think Lip would be a very interesting or innovative fighter like the Ice Climbers were.

It may have been released internationally but was still really obscure.

And Lip also has lots of potential. See this link:

i like your claims.

panel de pon was so successful that instead of localizing the game as is nintendo changed all the characters into mario ones.

there's literally 100's of nintendo characters that deserve a spot more than lip. like mokka from magical starsign. B)

At one point during SSB 64's production, Sakurai contemplated including Lip, but was afraid of her obscurity. Over the past decade and a half, he's included Panel de Pon references in Melee and Brawl so more people know about the game. Ace, I know nobody was going to use my hypothetical quote to argue against Lip; I was simply providing a counter-argument. qiq, Nintendo of America changed Panel de Pon into Tetris Attack to appeal to a wider fanbase. After all, no self-respecting gamer in 1995 would play a game with fairies as the stars, apparently.

To conclude, Super Smash Bros. is an enormous Nintendo family reunion that celebrates every franchise, no matter how small. Even though Nintendo of America was afraid to take any chances on Panel de Pon, and instead released the series' future games as Tetris Attack, Pokémon Puzzle League, and Planet Puzzle League, the puzzle games themselves have sold well and been remembered by many gamers. I say now is the time for Sakurai to finally include Lip as a fighter. Then, just like with the Ice Climbers, Marth, and especially Pit, Lip will gain a fan following and Panel de Pon will return.

Do you have a source for Sakurai considering Lip, Super Luigi? I've heard of him considering King Dedede, Bowser, Peach, Pit, and Mewtwo (all fighters in later Smash games) for Smash 64, but never Lip. I believe you, but I'd like to see where he said this. I see sourceless Sakurai quotes a lot on the web.

Anyways, it seems like a good enough idea. I would say that she has no basis for a move set, but we have the Climbers, Captain Falcon and all the Star Fox characters to show that that doesn't matter. She seems like a fairly interesting character, but I wouldn't get your hopes up. I would support her inclusion, though.

You're still forgetting that Lip starred in a single one of these games in Japan, and not once anywhere else.

I can literally make a unique moveset for any character ever. Doesn't mean they should all be included.

Mii
Neutral B Throw a pilotwings plane.
Side-B Create a TV and hop in it to plague a regular Nintendo game. Deals massive damage in AoE.
Up-B Create a tower of Miis that becomes impassable by other character.
Down-B Play music from Wii Music.
Final Smash Causes every Mii in your Mii plaza to cover the screen.

Wow, what a unique and good character!

He definitely made the right decision. Lip would be incredibly out of place with the rest of the original SSB cast.
Super Luigi! wrote:he's included Panel de Pon references in Melee and Brawl so more people know about the game.
Items and songs, which are more than enough to represent the one, non-localized game she appeared in.

I don't think your counter-arguments should be based on assuming people will have dumb reasons for why she shouldn't appear.

Lucas only appeared in the Earthbound (AKA Mother) games in Japan. Please explain that, Mr. Ace.

Lucas is popular as fuck. I didn't even know who Lip was until this discussion started. Lucas on the other hand I always knew about.

It's actually the easiest thing ever to explain.
First off, the Mother series itself was localized as Earthbound when Mother 3 came out, and it's fan base grew immensely. So much so that adding a second earthbound character was more than reasonable. Even though Lucas didn't appear in the localized Earthbound, people knew about him and asked for him (or any other Mother rep) before he was even announced.
And before you ask me to explain fire emblem, the same thing happened. Marth and Roy were originally going to be Japan exclusive, but vocal fans of both Smash and Fire Emblem changed Sakurai's mind. This even convinced Nintendo to start releasing Fire Emblems outside of Japan.

How many people are asking for Lip? 3?
How popular is she? She's not even on the scale.
How well would a new panel de pon sell today? Poorly. The dominating market for puzzle games right now is mobile devices, and the game would most likely do poorly on a console or as a retail 3DS game. I will admit that there may be a place for it on the 3DS eshop, but it wouldn't make anyone care about Lip or her games any more than they do now.

Pseudo-dino, here's the original questionnaire: http://www.nintendo.co.jp/n01/n64/softw ... rn009.html

Here's an excerpt from the translated version (yes, smashboards again. I can't find the other location where I read the quote): http://www.smashboards.com/showpost.php ... tcount=144

I'll be honest with everyone here. I know Lip's chances to enter Super Smash Bros. are slim, due to the fact Panel de Pon and it's sequel in Nintendo Puzzle Collection are Japan-only games. However, I still think she has a chance, and I want to see her added. My idea about Lip's popularity growing from her inclusion in Smash Bros., leading to more Panel de Pon games may only be wishful thinking. Nevertheless, Panel de Pon fans such as myself need some sort of idea to hold onto and start somewhere to make that dream a reality.

Lip.
How many people are actually familiar with her?
But personally, I think Panel De Pon is a great masterpiece.
If only the people who don't know her would give her a chance
how do you skew this statement into thinking sakurai was considering lip?

If you're going to attack my reading comprehension, may I also point out your poor capitalization? Insults aside, as I'd rather discuss Smash Bros., I'm glad Little Mac has joined. He seems to be an interesting fighter, to say the least. Plus, Punch-Out!! is great.
