YOU. WILL. NOT. BECOME. BOSSEDIT8!
Nah just kidding but really it's his job =P
Fun fact:
1- I did SMBX LPs long before anyone else had the will-power and recording software (excluding raocow)
2- I was doing this before bossedit8 even came around.
3- Don't derail a topic with useless comments like that.

All things aside, I am looking forward to playing another installation of your game Quill. And your custom Intro you made me was perfect, thank you. As for the LP itself, expect it by Friday evening at the absolute worst: or tomorrow evening at best.
your right was the 1st one to play SMBX like 2008 or 2009 but then you removed them.

I once bothered as303298 for three months about playing one of my levels.

He played it.

And hated it.

Carry on with normal discussion.

Maybe 1 Video after each 2 Days or later than 2 Days but not over than near 1 Week because that takes too long for each Part (although if I hit the school moments again that might be the case but we will see).

Tomorrow there will be another part.

Edit: Well, here it is:

Tower of Biased 6 Review

Postby mariogeek2 » Fri Jun 20, 2014 10:53 pm

Okay, I'm not very active in the SMBX community, so I decided I might as well do something to increase my activity in the forums. That's why I've decided to do episode reviews. For my first episode review, I've decided to do an episode that everybody in the community knows. Anyway, I'm going to rate 5 different aspects of the episodes I review: Story, difficulty curve, good level design, atmosphere, and climax. Be warned, there will be something along the lines of spoilers. So here's my review:

Story - The story in the tower of biased 6 was really well done. It had the perfect pacing. At the beginning of the episode you're given just enough information to let the know what's going on. As the story progresses, you learn a little bit about what's going on, but you don't fully learn what's happening till right near the end. Each time the story progresses the player learns just enough to keep him/her satisfied, but enough unanswered questions are left to leave the player wanting to know what's going to happen next. The player is kept in the dark about who the leader really is for most of the episode. And it has a really interesting ending to satisfy the player, but it ended sort of abruptly when (Spoiler Alert!) you fell down the hole and talked to deadfish. I thought I was going to go to the roof and beat the crap out of Valtteri. That would've been the perfect ending. But I guess I was asking too much from a TOB episode. So my story rating is...
7.75/10

Difficulty Curve - This is a Tower of Biased episode, and all the levels are placed in sequence based on their score instead of their difficulty level. I understand that. But that still doesn't change the fact that it has a sloppy, unorganized difficulty curve. You'll play a super easy level, and the next one will be this hard-as-crap level that you have to beat to move on in the episode. Although, it is a bit better than all the previous TOB 6 episodes. My difficulty curve rating is -
4.3/10

Good Level Design - Are the levels in this episode designed well? I'd have to say...yes. The Tier 2 levels are okay levels, not that bad, not that good...average. But from there it only gets better. Sure, there are levels occasionally that make you ask, "How in the world did this level get this high in the ratings?" But for the most part the levels are well, or at at least decently, designed. So, my good level design rating is -
8/10

Atmosphere - One of the things that sets this TOB episode apart from all the rest is the atmosphere. This episode had the perfect example of what an atmosphere should be (That's not perfectly true. It really depends on what kind of episode you're making.). This episode tries to achieve the dark, mysterious, technological atmosphere, similar to the Metroid series. And it does this with flying colors. It has a really, REALLY good atmosphere. And the story enhances the atmosphere all that much more. So my atmosphere rating definitely is -
9.25/10

Climax - All right, your episode can have good level design, awesome music, a good story, and epic bosses. But if the ending sucks, it'll leave a bitter taste in the mouth of the player. However, if you have average level design, average music, an average story, and average bosses, but the ending is epic, then that can convince the player that the episode is better than it actually was. The finale was certainly good, but (like I pointed out earlier in my story review) it was kind of a let down when the episode ended (Spoiler Alert!) by talking to deadfish. Also, it felt sort of rushed. My climax rating is -
7.8/10

So, I guess I would have to rate this episode...7.42/10. It's definitely worth a play, and certainly better than all the other Tower of Biased episodes, but it's not the best out there. It has a lot of inside jokes relating to the community, so if you're new to the community, those won't make much sense. It's certainly not a 'Have-to-Play' episode, but there's nothing that really kills the episode.

P.S.- If there's an episode you want me to review, just PM me or post your request in the comments below.

As much as I respect reviews, this really didn't deserve its own topic. Should have posted it in the thread for ToB6.

Holy fucking christ, this was the largest waste of time I have ever had the displeasure to play. I skipped Tier 1 after 2 levels and legitemately gave up when I got 8 stars. The levels presented in this so far just DESTROYED my enthusiasm to ever play this...

Terribly sorry for any good designer that submitted a level, but god damn this game was terrible for the last hour I was forced to play it. Quill next time, STOP putting star limitations on doors. That shit prevents people like me from havng fun with these terribly designed contest levels.

Those first two tiers were such a waste of time, I probably wont even upload the video I made...

I skipped Tier 1, pay attention. It was Tier 2 (Usually a bad but respectable tier) that was full of terrible levels. Hell, every level was worse than the last despite its increased rank.

Yeah, they're kinda bad and pretty hard for the most part though I managed to play up to Tier 4 now.

EDIT : Wraith adamknight : I actually wanted to see the videos of ToB6 so I know where, why and what you raged at.

Everyone seemed to be just fine with the tiers, but I guess knowing you, this was bound to happen.

If you want, I can send you a version with reduced star requirements or just no star requirements all together if that'll make you play the game again.

I thought you were going to do something special this time around, like remove the star locks.

I also agree with Knux with regards to this though, you are very pessimistic of this series in general (the reasons I can understand why, the level design is weaker in some places), and it does show in your lets play. It's almost put me off watching some of your SMBX lets plays more then a few times.

If you don't enjoy it, don't play it, or if you do come back to this, you can modify the hub system so that it up to your preferences, which in this case, one possibility is to remove the star locks. Blaming Quill for something the majority don't seem to be that bothered with is a bit unfair in my opinion, and I'm surprised that he is offering to give you a different version, which if you decide to continue this series, I would suggest taking the offer up.

Failing that, you could do what you did with Tournament 1 and cherry-pick some levels for a showcase. My levels got the longest name, if you do ;)

Yeah guess yo uare right that I AM pessimistic. But god damn, Tier 2 was the single most disappointing thing I have ever had the displeasure to play. It's not that I am a dick, its that these levels were some of the shittiest things I've ever played. Even joke levels pose more entertainment. BUT!, ill probably remove those annoying star locks and give it one more shot.

I can do it myself and give you a fixed version for tomorrow as otherwise you'll find spoilers when looking for the warps.

I'm not sure why some levels got some harsh ratings(rather than the super rushed levels/joke levels), but maybe when I try them, I can find out why.

I actually wanted to post this before even the rankings were unveiled, but I agree with as303298, regarding tier 2 AND star locks.

Tier 2 was qualitatively not bad for a tier 2, but it's just that many levels are extremely boring and just fail to entertain the player. I've decided to drop tier 2. That level with the Sky King, it was creative, but like, 20 minutes long and doesn't have any checkpoint, and even a boss that's extremely hard and random. When I continued I got a level with no music and extreme npc spam, and later a level with extremely slow autoscroll where I died pretty much at the end of the level. I apologize, but what's really primitive is that Tier 1 was BY FAR more entertaining and fun to play than the second tier, and after I started played the first level of Tier 3 I dropped the episode and just went to the level editor to play levels that I was interested in. I would have continued, but when I noticed I had to collect 30 stars to proceed, I quickly lost interest in completion of this episode.

Star locks. The advantage of star locks is that the hub CAN have a story in it. Proceeding in that story is one background incentive to actually play the episode. But being forced to play even annoying and uninteresting levels doesn't make you keep playing it. You just end-up losing interest and stop playing. Quill, it isn't even you fault. You did an amazing job with the hub. It had such a great atmosphere and was extremely well designed. Even the story was exciting, at least from the little I saw. But I still think, we should go a step back to ToB1, and have a hub that doesn't require you to play each level. Tower of Bias 1 wasn't really appealing in comparison to the other ones (no offense Ignoritus, but I think you'll agree that you did a much better job with Tob2 & 3), but I think you can still do something awesome out of it, despite of having no story.
