OK then. Yeah, they should return. And is it just me or not ALL of the Koopalings are in MK8? I mean, We've got Ludwig, Wendy and Morton, but where are the others? And where the heck is Bowser Jr.? Also, maybe there could have been the Greenie Ghost from Luigi's Mansion 2: Dark Moon in order to make a reference to that game?
That's my opinion. :|

You should unlock all characters first.

Yeah, all seven Koopalings are in the game, just play more races until they're unlocked.

The Greenie ghost seems a little silly for a character to me (its design is pretty generic), then again we got the Honey Queen in Mario Kart 7.

I got this game on Sunday. It's fun, and I'm doing OK in Internet(around 1400 points in less than a week).

Cool, all of them are there! Phew, I was about to do some chilly rage but...thanks for sayin'. So I guess there will be no Greenies and no Bowser Jr.?
I'd really like if he was in the game...then again, at least we've got Shy Guy, the Koopalings and... Pink Gold Peach??? *insert Bowser Jr. here*

I honestly might get a Wii U just for MK8

We might actually get more characters due to those figure things they talked about in the Smash direct. They had said it'd be compatible with MK8.

Based on what we know about the amiibos so far, it seems unlikely that they'd use them to unlock characters like that. It wouldn't particularly surprise me if I'm wrong, but that doesn't seem to be their purpose at least in Smash Bros..

I agree. Based on the SSB explanation, Mario Kart 8 Amiibos would probably be your Time Trial ghosts or custom vehicle selection.

Dunno...maybe it's like that.
Funny, because in Mario Kart Wii I unlocked Rosalina and the game showed me that it was a gift from Super Mario Galaxy, and I think I had already beaten that game. Maybe you unlock new characters when you reach a point in another Nintendo game and play Mario Kart 8 after that.

Thing is though, Rosalina is unlockable in MKWii through other means as well, not just having a Mario Galaxy save file on your Wii.

So then it's safe to say an amiibo might unlock a character, while not being the only way you can unlock that character. That way people can buy games packaged with their favourite character if they don't want to go to the effort of unlocking them (though I assume they'll want the amiibo for other reasons as well).

(Do I think there'll be NEW MK8 characters? Not really.)

I would bet on them being unlockable ghosts to race against, since their function in Smash Bros is to have a custom made character to fight against, it is however one of the already playable characters, so I would think that its function in Mario Kart would be similar, and the closest thing to that is Time Trial ghosts.

Alright, now we may have an idea on how this extra characters function works.
From what I've seen on Internet only one more retro track from Mario Kart 64 can be used, which can be a little disappointing; that track is freakin' Wario Stadium. I thought Nintendo would have used more SNES and GBA tracks. We know that MK64 was outstanding, but seriously: for the next Mario Kart generations, I don't think we will see that awesome game often anymore.

So I played Battle Mode with a friend today, and it's not nearly as bad as I thought. It's a lot more camping-oriented than previous battle modes because there are so many places you can hide on regular race tracks, but it was still pretty fun.

I like just sitting on the racetrack in plain sight, waiting for others to find me, and also just cruising. What about you? Are you serious or more like me when battling?

Sincerely, Battle Mode isn't bad, but I'd play the battle courses on Mario Kart Wii instead. Of course, races can be fun too when playing together, so there are a lot of choices when playing with friends: you can cooperate in races and battles to feel ominous over the CPUs, or you can compete each other to reveal who is more experienced or if you just want to be jerks...anyway, Mario Kart will always shine in fun with friends.

I think they should have put actual battle arenas not just race tracks
