Yeah I mentioned this multiple times.
To avoid this kind of "strategizing" in the future, maybe we could agree that all of these kinds of games have a 24-hour choosing phase that isn't ended early even if everyone has chosen their roles

Yeah, we've been over this a few times, but some people are pretty deadset on this meta-gaming thing.

The initial iteration of the game (M38) utilized that 24-hour choosing period, but during the reroll people were pretty anxious and pressuring about starting the game early, and almost everyone but one particular person was online during the 12-hour choosing period.

Hi guys! It's that time of year again.
The 4th season of The Mafia Championship is here. Last year you were repped by Zeldamaster -- who was then replaced by Pseudo.
I was hoping that maybe you guys would be interested in sending a representative again this year.
More information here:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1E9x ... 5p4W4/edit
Cliffs:
- 150 communities will be participating -- hopefully you will be amongst those
- The setup this year: 15-man Mountainous (3 Mafia Goons vs. 12 Vanilla Townies)
- Qualifiers take place during May and June. So your rep would just need to have 2-3 weeks where they could play during either of those months (they play in just one qualifying game at whatever time suits them best).
- Your rep can choose between 12, 36, 48 or 72 hour Day Phases
- Your rep needs to make a minimum of 10 posts per Day Phase
- The activity will be much higher than what you're used to - expect maybe 500 posts per day the first few days
- Deadline for deciding on a rep/volunteering: April 23
When I suggested this place on discord, told you I would not be chosen. I would probably not do so well anyway. Hope Megar can keep up.

Could i take a second to kind of talk about the dumb way that we play mafia on this forum? Let me explain several things, first of, inactivity,
people have this dumb mentality that inactive =/= Mafia/TP and act like it should be grounds for suspicion. When honestly, someone could be
inactive because of irl stuff or their internet not working. Examples of games where people use this dumb logic i can think of include
M31, M32, and some others. Infact, sometimes doing this has made us lose the game in certain situations.
Next, i'd like to talk about how we find leads on who to lynch. Okay, now this. Usually when we consider something a "lead", it could
be very shallow evidence such as "inactivity", or sometimes, viewing PMs. The thing with inactivity is that sometimes people may not know
how they can add to the discussion or their busy with RL as i said before. Also, Viewing PMs, even though someone could be talking with mafia while doing this,
as seen in M25, they may not even be related to the game in any way, or worst case scenario, they were talking with Townies or SPECIALS.
Also, notice this, once someone votes to lynch someone with a faulty lead such as "inactivity or not contributing" notice how alot of players just blindly follow
with this logic and jump on the bandwagon mindlessly, without thinking of what the consequences could be, there have been many mafia
games that this kind of thing has happened such as M30, M32, M34, M35, etc. And notice that the town lost 3 of 4 of those games.
Continuing on the subject of bandwagons, if the person being bandwagoned against tries to defend themselves in any way, people will
just use it as more evidence or claim that it makes them look more suspicious, but if the person doesn't talk, they'll assume
their trying to avoid the question, making them more suspicious, also notice how with bandwagons, it seems like everyone almost always
gangs up on one player, and if anyone tries to defend that person, it apparently automatically means that their both mafia,
when in reality, they could be trying to stop you from lynching a special. Also notice that if your bandwagoned against, death is pretty much
inevitable because if to avoid getting lynched you revealed being a special, the mafia or TP would just kill you the next night anyway, meaning that
you basically have no way out.
So i just wanted to get this post out here and hope that people respond to this

Well, a good deal of this is false and misguided. Lynching people who are inactive is not usually because they are suspicious. As seen in the current game, Lynches are required and help narrow down who is left that could be Mafia. When there are no good leads, Lynching an inactive player means that not much is being lost since they aren't contributing that much to the game anyway. If someone is inactive to being busy or their Internet not working, that's doesn't justify inactivity since they're still not contributing to the game while someone else who isn't playing could. Your bandwagonning claims are also kinda poor as well. Usually when there aren't very many leads, bandwagons occur so that people try to fit in and when there is a major lead bandwagonning is necessary to get a guilty player Lynched successfully. And also, just because someone defends themselves doesn't mean they're guilty, it's how they defend themselves. If someone sounds anxious, revenge votes immediately, etc. they look guilty, but in many games, people have just taken a step back and come up with a reasonable defense that has successfully cleared them of their guilt

I kinda agree with what PixelPest says about the inactivity. People really deserve to be lynched if they don't contribute to the game much, and since lynches are mandatory in mafia games, and if nobody is able to find someone suspicious, we can just lynch a random person to avoid a phantom. Chances are townies wouldn't have much of a loss anyways if they did kill a semi-important player, because the particular player would never be active that time.

UPDATE ON MAFIA CHAMPIONSHIP
Originally, the plan was for this season to feature 135 communities. We will now have 165 participating communities, which means that this season alone we will have more different communities represented than all other seasons combined. Approximately 60 communities are participating for the very first time. Of the returning communities, about a dozen of them are resending a previous representative, while the rest are all sending fresh faces.
As a result of how big this season has gotten, we'll have more games to look forward to than ever before. We will have 11 qualifying games, 2 wildcard games and 1 finale game = 14 games in total.
All kinds of communities are partipating. Besides the sites dedicated specifically to mafia, we have forums dedicated to popular entertainment, sports, poker, board games, online games, video games, role playing, LEGO, personality type testing, stick figure animations, science, atheism, music, mathematics, comics, students, etc. Some of these communities started playing mafia more than a decade ago; Others just started this year.
Despite this being a forum event, we will also have communities that play the game via various chat clients (Discord, Telegram, IRC, custom, etc.) and via webcam (with games often streamed on Twitch.tv). And not least, there are communities centered around mafia game variants that you can buy on Steam (Town of Salem and Throne of Lies).
This season will also have the biggest international scope yet. For the very first time we will have representatives from Romania, Hungary, Chile, Portugal, Ukraine and Czechia as well as our first person representing a Japanese community. We even have our first Native American.
In addition to this, we of course welcome back countries such as USA, Canada, Australia, United Kingdom, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Poland, Italy, Indonesia, South Africa and Ireland, meaning that we'll have more than 20 different countries represented in total.
_________________________
Final reminder: If your community hasn't picked a representative yet, your deadline is by the end of tomorrow (April 23).
Next update: I am hoping very much I will have all the info I need from all of the representatives by Wednesday at the latest next week. Assuming I do, I will schedule all the qualifying games on this day and get back to you with your representative's start date.

I personally wouldn't mind Shroom as the representative.
But Pseudo or Spinda could also work if they want to do it.

I would not be available to do it.
Megar is the best candidate IMO, if he's willing.

If ShadowStarX partook, we would have a second Hungarian I think. Eitherway, I am also up if all other options are burnt out.

Um, since when would I be a good representative though? True I don't want to be that anyways.

Meh, if Megar can't go, then it will be Shroom

We don't need a representative, might I add. If people are willing, that's fine and all, but just remember that you would be a representative for the community as a whole, and the game will play much differently than what we've established here.
