I think Sakurai is a bit more familiar with what the community wants this time around. He's clearly teasing Ridley in some sense. Not that I'd be surprised at all if he really was just a boss.

I'd like to stick with Gamexplain's theory though that, if it's a boss, it will function like in the Spirit Tracks arena:
When Ridley isn't being played, he appears as a boss.
When Ridley is being played, Mecha Ridley appears as a boss.

OK now a serious comment: I don't think Meta Ridley will appear in Pyrosphere because he is not in Other M. But with Sakurai, everything is possible. What if Kraid is the stage hazard?... there is a small possibility.

I haven't played Other M and I'm not a Metroid expert, but I thing I know is that Mecha (or Meta or whatever you call it) didn't appear as a boss in that game. And since Other M is based on you know Other M is says that Ridley is a boss and not a playable character. Just something I came up with.

What will the Raccoon Characters look like? We know Luigi will be using his Raccoon Form instead of the Fox form from New Super Mario Bros 2, and we can all assume what Mario will look like.

Trust me, if Ridley IS a playable character, I would wonder what his Raccoon form will look like. I mean, he already has a tail!

To me, raccoon form is equal to bunny ear form.
They'll just get it attached, no matter if it makes sense or not.

When Ridley joins the battle, Meta Ridley is in charge of the Pyrosphere. Meta Ridley: "Leave it to me!"

Yes I would approve of this though. It seems plausible enough. I'm pretty convinced that Sakurai is hiding something in all this. He's being too clandestine about actually showing us Ridley.

Look, just to be clear, I'm not really expecting Ridley to be playable. But he might be. Sakurai is definitely not telling us the full truth with that footage, I don't believe it for a second. Ridley isn't necessarily playable, but I think he's more than just a stage boss.

Of course, this is Sakurai we're talking about. He might just be a stage boss.

HOLY SHIT PEOPLE Nintendo is hosting a Smash Bros. invitational tournament at E3 2014! This is gigantic, in the past Nintendo seemed to hate the competitive community. Seriously, this is really great.

I know it's not technically on topic but damn, the hype.

Just so you know, this is a 100% invitational tournament. 16 "top players" will be invited according to the press release, so nobody is really going to be missing anything. I'm fairly certain that it's going to be posted on YouTube; I think that's the whole point.
