Other than that this is 4 carrot gold gameplay. No, seriously, the level was actually pretty fun and pretty challenging to go through. I didn't fall asleep and those dragon coins were my only beef with this level.

DarkMatt sez:What was super impressive is that this level had 6 different gimmicks, and all of them worked. The only problem with this level is the same you might find in, say, 6-8 in Yoshi's Island. Once I find your easiest path, I have no incentive to take the others. Not saying you should make every path mandatory, just that if you split them all apart some of your level is going to be untouched in a practical full-fledged episode.

DarkMatt sez:Why did this suddenly become new super mario bros after the midway point and not the beginning of the level? Oh well, the aesthetics were nice albeit a bit stitched together. Level direction is also a bit shaky but not too bad. Basically this is a level chock full of miniscular problems I cannot harp on, like that screenshot.

DarkMatt sez:Man this level goes all over the god damn place with its graphics. I have seen everything it does in levels before it and I generally like those more than this. More varied aesthetics does not equal more better, espcecially when I've seen others use your theme and your level tricks and some of them do it better than you.

DarkMatt sez:This shit really wants to be hard without actually knowing what a hard level is. Nothing's more frustrating than lava everyfuckingwhere and thus having a single mistake spell death. That and OOP FORGOT THE FIRST SWITCH TIME TO GO BACK. That and the aesthetics. I've seen these before. I've seen them used in a better way than square lava everywhere and lava falls to add "depth" to the level theme. Why is this 2nd? It has a lot of flair and a couple of good ideas but it has a good amount of terrible ones as well.

DarkMatt sez:Now let me talk a bit about the backstory behind this contest. This guy, right here? He was one of the judges. He was also one of the worst judges. Bunch of people myself included gave him shit about how bad his judging was, and we didn't just do it because he shot decent levels way down the ranks, it actually was reaaaaallllly bad. Like seriously, he should not have been a judge.

But he should have won the contest.

This is the sort of level I would recommend to Kyasarin. We have a setting, we have it fleshed out, and we have powerful gimmicks to keep it interesting to go through. There may be backtracking involved but it isn't particularly serious nor is it a problem to continue going through here. The graphics are also used to their fullest as the level theme stays consistent throughout the entire ride. Unlike third place, which shoved a bunch of graphics to be diverse, and second, which cared more about being a hard level than a pretty one, this level strikes a well-sounding note between fun to play and interesting to go through. No matter who the hell says whatever the fuck, Emral won this contest with flair and he is a fantastic level designer.

I just hope he never judges ever again. He's a far better artist than an art critic.

oh and reason why i got a screenshot of a glitch is because honestly I cannot find a single spot to take a shot of. This is best experienced in its whole instead of framed on a wall. (hey bossedit)
