Major announcement.
During a conference, Microsoft announced Windows 10 will be the last version of Windows.
But that doesn't mean Windows will stop; they're planning to make monthly updates to the system, just like Google is doing with Chrome.

"Windows 10 will be a service."
I'm not sure how I feel about this tbh. Are they gonna start making it a subscription service, or keep updates free? Knowing Microsoft, it could be the former.

Honestly, I'm not too excited about Windows 10. I think the reason Windows is so prevalent is because XP was better than Mac OS9 and everybody is on Windows because of it. All the programs have to be for Windows, then all the people come to Windows because all the programs are on Windows, then rinse and repeat. Getting Windows 10 would probably just perpetuate the cycle. It's hard enough to switch to Mac or Linux now, what happens when everybody migrates to Windows 10? More frameworks get developed, Windows 10 exclusive frameworks, and we're suddenly digging the hole even deeper without even noticing.

See in my opinion, they should have just stopped at Win7. XP was what made Windows great and 7 builds on from that while retaining practically the same user-friendly interface. Windows 8 was simply the new Win Vista, a fail if you will. With the provision that Microsoft goes back and builds upon the Win 7 structures then I see no problem with 10.

I'm thinking about upgrading to Windows 10. The return of start menu seems to be sensible for me.

It installs quietly in the background, according to an Email I got from Microsoft about Windows 10.
Lets just hope that it works with my currently-installed programs. Seriously, I still want to play SMBX when the update is done.

Alright so I'm on Windows 10 right now and I love love love it. Everything that made Windows 8 terrible is either fixed to be good or just flat out gone. The new notice center is fantastic. I can't use Cortana yet sadly as it's available only to China, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, United Kingdom, and United States. (Probably never will use it anyways.) Everything is working perfectly so far, and I have absolutely no complaints.

I must agree with Blank here, the upgrade process went really smoothly for me. Some things I like and dislike
Like
-The new theme
-It's fucking fast
-Start menu is bae
-Task view and workspaces, fucking finally. OS X has had this since 10.3 and Linux has had it in various desktop environments for even longer.
-The new icons finally fit Windows 8.
Dislike
-How all the windows are white. There's nothing to differentiate between an active and inactive window, i reported this during the beta and as you can see it didn't get fixed.
-I redeemed my free copy of Minecraft Windows 10 Edition, first of all I got a store error that required me to run WSReset.exe or something like that. When it finally downloaded, I was disappointed by how long it took to launch and how long it took for Xbox to sign me in (I actually don't own an Xbox tbh). And then finally, the in game overlay that's toggled with Win+G is subpar, there's virtually no indication that it's an overlay besides a strip a little bit from the bottom. Also the fucking mouse acceleration needs to take a chill pill.
Truth be told: I don't use the start menu that much. I didn't in 7 when they introduced search, as that's what I did: I searched for the app i wanted to open. I hit winkey and started typing away. I did the same in Windows 8, or I did Winkey+S. So I didn't miss the start menu that much, but I sure can appreciate that this new one is the perfect blend between 8 and 7
