SMBX on Windows 8?

I've always been thinking about upgrading to Windows 8, but I'm worried that if I do so I won't be able to use SMBX or make any levels because it won't be compatible. I also remember that TryLouBliss posted a tutorial on how to get SMBX working on Windows 8 but it's been lost because Knux's forum has been deleted.

How do you get SMBX to work properly on Windows 8 without any complicated tutorials involving installing software just to make it compatible? Is it possible to get SMBX working on Windows 8?

Yes it is, I have a W8 laptop and it does work on there. I just installed it straight to it like you would to any other Windows computer (XP, 7 etc) and I've had no problems with it. (SMBX that is, not W8. I hate W8 with a passion and would happily re-install XP or 7 any day.)

I think it may have issues if you have programs like Malware-Bytes, Avast or Kasperspy. Until these are made to either ignore SMBX as a problem you may encounter weird issues, like SMBX not responding to whatever you're doing or it having to shut because of some "virus" alerts. I've heard this is a big problem in terms of W8, but if you don't have these like me, you should be fine.

I also have a Windows 8 computer and I can confirm that it does indeed work just fine on it. I haven't had any issues with playing SMBX, or any of the 100 games I have played on Steam, on my Windows 8 computer.

Thanks for the info. But if I do upgrade to Windows 8 it possesses the problem that I have to redownload SMBX 1.3.0.1. Does the 1.3.0.1 download contain everything that 1.3 had plus the bug fixes (as in, the entire SMBX folder) or do I have to download 1.3 first and then 1.3.0.1?

AFAIK everything is in the zip file for 1.3.0.1. Also, if you are just upgrading, I'm pretty sure your harddrives contents will still be there.

No. I'm getting an entirely new computer with Windows 8 preinstalled on it. However I'm backing up all the other SMBX stuff, including the levels and CGFX, first.

SMBX Did work on Windows 8 what I had for a year back. You can either get 1.3 or 1.3.0.1 if you want to and both will work. I only tried 1.3 though.

Works just fine on Windows 8, yes. I've used SMBX on Windows 8 for as long as it's been around. And SMBX 1.3.0.1 works too. I actually made the update on Windows 8 so yeah. :P

If by bug fixes you mean graphics then yes all stuff in the 1.3.0.1 change log is there. It does not include lunadll or the lunadll exe.

I recommend not installing windows 8.1 because the OS is very hard to get used to if you've used windows 7.

Not really. The only confusing part is Metro, which you can skip at startup through a simple checkbox in taskbar settings. Also, you can get the start menu back easily through a program, and there are many out there, most free and very easy to install, not to mention very small file sizes.

I know my way through win8 but honestly I definitely wouldn't upgrade from win 7 on my main PC.

It should work.
I have an HP Envy 15 notebook and It works perfectly.
It's smooth. The loading time is a bit faster, and there's almost no lag unless you stick random shit in your computer that it doesn't need. XD
