Anyone here heard of the deep web? I guess it's where sites like Megaupload and The Silk Road go.

The Deep Web (also called the Deepnet, Dark Web,[1] Invisible Web, Undernet or Hidden Web) is World Wide Web content that is not part of the Surface Web, which is indexed by standard search engines. It should not be confused with the dark Internet, the computers that can no longer be reached via the Internet, or with a Darknet distributed filesharing network, which could be classified as a smaller part of the Deep Web. There is concern that the deep web can be used for serious criminal activity. [2]
Mike Bergman, founder of BrightPlanet and credited with coining the phrase,[3] said that searching on the Internet today can be compared to dragging a net across the surface of the ocean: a great deal may be caught in the net, but there is a wealth of information that is deep and therefore missed.[4] Most of the Web's information is buried far down on dynamically generated sites, and standard search engines do not find it. Traditional search engines cannot "see" or retrieve content in the deep Web—those pages do not exist until they are created dynamically as the result of a specific search. As of 2001, the deep Web was several orders of magnitude larger than the surface Web.[5]

You can get there using TOR, but I suggest NOT TO, as Child Porn and other illegal shit can be found there. The strange this is, that some believe TOR is funded by the government or something.

It's kinda weird knowing that the internet that we have access to is only a fraction of the size that the deep web is. Then again, most of the stuff in the deep web is probably stuff that I wouldn't want to be looking for in the first place.

It's full of child porn, gore porn, dismemberment porn and other peculiar things. Not to forget that some sites there sell stuff like meth, cocaine, AIDS in a needles, bombs, etc.

No point in using it unless you want to perform illegal activities.

As I replied to a similar post on Knuxforums (not that I can prove it now, I hope Knux makes the archives public), much of the deep web is on surface web websites, specifically pages that are not indexed on search engines such as password protected pages and the like. It's not all child porn nor should it be thought of as generally nefarious.

Last time I checked which was earlier this month, The Hidden Wiki was offline/not available.
The Hidden Wiki is well like a library of links to sites on the Deep Web that are .onion domained, which means they can only be accessed by the Tor Network. You can find videos YouTube about the Deep Web and well the Hidden Wiki, they will give you details and actual video capture so you can see what is on the site. Most of it is not all that pretty, yes there is child pornography, erotica of other sorts, discussion boards, commercial and non-commercial services. So don't be an idiot and just be clicking around while using TOR, if you decide to do so, go ahead, your bound to find something you didn't want to see. If you don't know what your doing, then don't use it.

From the start of 2013 running up to the start of 2014, many of the Tor services are offline. However, the benefit of those malicious sites or being a TOR service is they can restart the site all over again. I mean Deep Web sites like The Silk Road (Online Black Market) have already been taking down before by the U.S Goverment and without surprise they are back online. The Deep Web is very interesting, I recommend watching some YouTube videos or googling articles, it's certainly a notorious but interesting site.

I've seen that video before. I recommend watching people actually browsing the Deep Web. It's the closest you can get to the "Deep Web" if you don't know or don't want to browse it yourself. After all it can be a pretty sinister place. One thing is for sure, many of the TOR hidden services are currently offline or having been taking down.
