I'm back, with a new spark towards Super Mario Brothers X. And it's all because of one thing. I learned to stop taking things seriously, and embrace my shitposting side in regards to level creation.
As if the Episode's name wasn't somehow a sign of this being anything but a joke. This project is an absolute blast to work on. However, it does not cater to players. Your time will be wasted for my own enjoyment.
Each (non-story) level will have two stars. The first star will act as a tutorial for the level. Re-entering the level will force you into a much harder version of said level, with, of course, completely new layouts. So to 100% the game, you have to play each level twice. This is a gimmick I saw way back in 2016 with potential, but didn't act on it until now.
And before you waste your time, no, I will not be taking criticism. Not because I believe I'm above it. Because that would be a foolish thing to think. But because both I don't care, I'm trying to have fun. And that I know this engine well enough that any quirks or things that may seem like unintended garbage are, I assure you, completely intended.
I'm an adult struggling to get by as it is, with the loss of family, while living in an unfamiliar location. I'll keep working on this until I feel burned out, or I am on the verge of homelessness lol. Whatever comes first.

Added world map with some cute little custom icons I made.
1-5 (Quiz) A-Side is almost done.
1-4 needs a B-Side worked on.
Playtesting needs to be done. For some reason, the game seems to be ignoring some files, or ignoring certain pieces of them. I'll find a way. :U

Also sorry to say but I'm using GPT-5 for some lite LUA coding because I don't like bothering my friend and every time I tried coding myself I get extremely frustrated. If this bothers you idk just don't play or find me a coder who does it for free and wants to shitpost with me

Use of AI-generated art is banned on the forums and on the Discord, as the use of AI-tools to create anything that disenfranchises human artists, whose work and livelihood is threatened as a result of the corporate shift towards AI-generated images. We support artists and would like to ask you to do the same.

Its not art, its code, and other than the reasons stated before the other big reason why is that some fellow SMBX friends from the past also said I should just go ahead and do it, including one that wasn't part of the community but was working for the US Government for a period of time lmao

Code also counts as art imo because it is a part of creative skill and imagination, not just than images, pictures (which art is most known for) It also counts music, level design, you name it.
Anyway, whether or not you're considering art or not, its stil prohibited since youre using AI which insults artists, musicians, pogrammers because theyre using their stuff without permission or whatever idgaf
Eh I completely understand the other art arguments but man its hard for me to consider coding an art in comparison to the others and I'd consider baking an art. Especially when terms like "All code is stolen code" exists.
Definitely skirting a fine line here but I'll try to keep things lite as I said before. And if all else fails I'll just remove said code for my friend's.
