New Ranks

Hey all, it's time for that topic again! Some love 'em, some hate 'em and I guess everyone else is indifferent, but they're back! Well... they never really went anywhere, they just looked pretty half-baked, and that's about to change. Now regardless on where anyone stands on the ranks topic, I feel like if we're going to have ranks, we might as well make the effort to have them look decent, especially with the cool new forum themes that have been getting made. The new rank images are a bit different to what we've typically had in the past, but I really hope you enjoy them.

I've made some changes to the Rank roster, so you'll see two new faces to celebrate Beta 5; Chain Chomp and Boss Bass, as well as a slight shuffling of some of the older ranks.

Rank backgrounds now also change. Ranks between 1-999 posts have a blue background, 1000-4999 posts have a silver background and 5001 onward are gold. How fancy! You can check out the unlocked Ranks and changes below:

Emral currently holds the highest post count on the forums which would have unlocked a couple more ranks, however, since they have a special Rank, I will leave those ones so they can still be discovered and not spoiled.

Please remember that shit-posting to boost your post count/Ranks still isn't cool or tolerated.

Can we have a option in the control panel where we can change to the original ranks for the people who dont really like the new ranks?

I second this. The new ones look fine, but the old ones were already perfectly fine

It would be cool to have an option to switch to a lower rank.
I don't want to delete around 50 messages and then never post again just to get the role I want...

Personally I’d like themed ranks like how SMW Central has, it’d probably be too much to implement for now though

I’ve done a bit of a Google search, and at least from what I can find, there is no way of doing that even with phpBB mods. I’ve found topics asking the same question from a good few years ago, but with no concrete solution. The basic rank system allows only for post-count ranks or special ranks (The Egg Hunt 2025 rank), which still can only be given by admins. I’ve been curious about that before too, I’m kinda surprised it’s not a thing.

Oof, seeing my pfp and pronouns on those forums is a blast from the past, (last seen 3 years, 11 months and 5 days ago).

Anyways, I don’t remember my password there but from what I can remember they’re called “ranksets”, there’s some users with SMB3 ranks, LoZ ranks, Kirby ranks, Paper Mario, Earthbound, even just dots as ranks. You could go to your user control panel and select any one you want or you could disable ranks altogether.

i really hate to ask this, but i dont really like having 2025 egg hunter plastered under my name for the majority of 2025, so are there any updates on the "changing ranks" stuff?

Some people still have egg ranks from years ago, I’ve gotten used to it atp
