@ Rixitic: Do you mean with "true final update" an update that is no longer part of the beta - phase of SMBX 2?
Sorry for the super-belated reply! The "true final update" thing was something of a joke based on Terraria's history of getting several "final" updates (since Redigit made SMBX 1.3 and all that.) I was really just referring to the Patch 3 Hotfix and hopefully a Patch 4, and they're not going to be anything huge:
- the hotfix will just be Rednaxela and the anonymous volunteer fixing the release tools issue that's preventing the snifit fix, a couple fixes MrDoubleA has already made on the LunaDLL side, and any critical bugs I can squash myself by the time Red and the volunteer are done.
- Patch 4 would add a few minor decorative tilesets and any further bugfixing and polish I can apply within a reasonable timeframe after that; I'm tentatively aiming for a code freeze at the end of this month so it can be released sometime in May, but fair warning that this schedule could slip depending on a number of factors (including the time it takes me to wrap up some playtesting and clean-up work for a project that uses the A2XT2 devkit.)

Unfortunately, what Rixi meant is that the game is going to stay on beta, and the team will dissolve after the next patch/hotfix
(isweartogodifigetthisinfowrong.)
(Apologies, but, uh... well, you can see how long this got.)
Dissolve isn't quite the word I'd use at this point since it's already been something of a skeleton crew for a while now. Mainly, I'll be stepping down as temp project lead and the main X2 repository is most likely getting a new owner.
We ended up having the dev repository talks here on the forums and I've already outlined the dev team situation, the reasons for shifting away from Discord, what happens after the thread closes, etc in the opening post of that thread. So rather than repeat myself I'm just gonna suggest you and ben go read it over there via the link in my signature and weigh in yourselves if you want.
Going by how the discussion has been trending in that thread so far, chances are that after we pick the new owner and hand the repo over to them they'll make it public and open the engine up to community-crowdsourced development. So while there's only one or two small updates left from what remains of the old core team, I'm optimistic that it won't be the end of SMBX2 development altogether.
With regards to the Beta # label... we've been calling each new major release a different numbered beta primarily because the LunaLua framework and new features were in flux while we built them up -- there's always been the chance of content made for one beta being fundamentally incompatible with the next beta. Even so, I'd say we did a decent job of reducing that more and more with each successive beta to the point that any further additions to the engine will be on a fairly solid foundation; we didn't end up finishing all the big features we wanted, but the label probably doesn't matter
that much anymore per its original purpose.
Depending on what direction the project takes under its new owner, though, it might be worth keeping that naming pattern for future updates? So it's possible that SMBX2 will remain in beta, or the label could be dropped right away; it's up in the air right now. There's been some talk about outlining a project vision in the repo ownership thread too, so once again I recommend heading over there and reading the thoughts others have shared on the matter.

More bugs with YI dirt (block #694):
1. Block script processes even on hidden layers, causing lags because there are 18k YI dirt blocks on toggled layer in test level + 1500 blocks on default layer.
2. Blocks don`t render properly if their layer was shown when blocks were off camera. And if such blocks are in player`s camera afterwards, blocks are invisible.
Test level:

Can't promise I'll be able to fix both of these issues, but I'll look into them!
