This is a revival of SMBX 1.3's for SMBX2, featuring new modes, new levels and even online multiplayer!
Download/Website!
Online multiplayer requires some extra setup to work, and the above site includes a guide on how to set it up. It also includes a guide for making a level and documentation for the online system.
Levels from SMBX 1.3 made by Redigit, Blue and Red_Yoshi.
New levels made by myself and Starshi.
Check the credit files for more detailed credits!

I've never got to properly play the battle mode in 1.3, I just ran around the battle stages with the second player being afk, so I'm super happy that this episode is out!

This is a thing now? Wow! I spent hundreds of hours playing this mode with my friend. We built hundreds of levels and innovated on the format a lot. Before porting my stuff over, I'd ask for a few config options (or at least the mushroom start) to restore the authentic experience of playing the old battle mode:
- option to have players spawn powered up with a Super Mushroom (this is the most important things for me because it's such a game changer and we designed our levels around it)
- option to enable the item slot
- option to change the respawn delay and the amount of iframes you get upon respawning (in the original version it takes longer to respawn and you get more iframes)
It could also be useful to have per-level customization for the coin system to tailor it for the level's needs (which items appear and how often?)
EDIT: The mushroom start is there now! Though you don't respawn with a mushroom.

as someone who tried to implement battle mode in X2 since 2020/2021 (and partially succeeded), I'm glad someone was able to do it. seeing this project come to life is amazing and smbx2 not having battle mode was the reason why i started making my own project of battle mode as well and thank you for making your own become a reality.

You need to find people to play with, then join them/have them join you via Radmin VPN. Please only share your IP address with people you trust though!

FINALLY WE HAVE A PROPPER BATTLE MODE??? AND IT´S ONLINE????? HELL YEEEAAAHHHHHH
I'm gonna have do much fun making levels and playing with people online & with friends
One suggestion though is to add a race to the finish line mode, where players just race to the end of the level, like in SMM2. There would be a ton of potential for a mode like that.
Other than that, AMAZING WORK!!!

TBH, this sounds like it should be its own thing. It's a cool idea tho.

one suggestion i would share is to make an option for battleCamera.lua to have the legacy screen splitting, so the camera isn't locked vertically or horizontally, meaning if 2 players are close to each other the camera isn't split anymore. in my opinion, playing with the new camera lock is difficult in a local game

Quick question: The things were enemies respawn and ?-blocks get reset, is that automatically applied when put in the episode folder or do you need a separate configuration?

That's auto-set AFAIK.
