I'm curious about your BGMs... Which came first: The levels or the music? Where and when did you get your inspirations (e.g. while going for a walk)? Do you (or could you) play your BGMs on a keyboard as well?
The levels always come first. The music was one of the last things to be composed and added to the stages.

Where I'm getting my inspirations from... that's actually not quite easy to answer, it depends. I usually just take an unplugged electric guitar, come up with some chords, chord progressions or a bass line and develop the entire song upon an initial idea.

And nope, I don't play keyboard at all. I play guitar, electric guitar and bass.

It's been three years, eh?

I've heard that some people really seem to have liked this episode, so I started working on an update a while ago. Tons of quality of life changes, more coins, power-ups, extra lives, secrets, hints, (optional) dialogue, I nerfed some stages here and there as well as the final boss, especially its second phase.

This episode has been down for a while, but I still have it and intend to put it up again - updated - some time in the near future. I do have some plans for post-game content even further in the future as well if time and circumstances allow for it, but for now, this would mainly be an optimization update!

Hey, great to hear that! :) After a long absence I'm now going to play SMBX more often again. Will definitely revisit The Fallen Spirits as well!

[*]The hole gates don't contain a black inner semi-circle anymore, just a misplaced black triangle

World 1
  • While watching the intro, you see several misplaced blocks, and Mario standing on a switch.
  • In the hidden Room in 1-2, the hidden teleporter is visible as a black bar
  • In Stage Ex 1 at the beginning of the tutorial, there are two black junk triangles
