Who even does that? That's what the custom assets folder is for.

People who don't zip their levels or episodes but still upload them to mediafire.

Not having to do ANYTHING with Mario
Most modern quality episodes usually have you play as a weird OC instead of Mario. What game am I playing?
Also huge difficulty spikes at the end are annoying, with the biggest example being The Princess Cliche being an easy episode until you start fighting bowser... (Fun fact: I finally beat the boss only when 2.0 came out and added Mega Man)

this tbh ... but I also observe this in SMW romhacks ... it sets a different mood, and that's not bad in general ...

I'm fine if there are some episodes/hacks like this, but if every single quality episode/hack is like that it's going to be a bit annoying

The snow level in Invasion 2 that requires you to hit a ton of hidden blocks for the secret exit. It is only redeemed because of the nice music.

That's not really a trend, it's more of a gripe from a certain level

I think something that annoys me in episodes is reskined bosses. Some times you're in a room with no hazards other than, say, a reskined boom boom or larry koopa
If you are going to reskin bosses, add some tweaks to make them feel different, or if you don't want to do that, luna.lua bosses exist!

Well yeah I think I should be more vague and say: annoyingly tedious or difficult secret exits. At that point no one would really want to play it. (In my case) That is why I make it so the path forward becomes slightly easier because the difficult part was getting the key and having to bring it to a much farther point in the level. The level being one that contains large vertical sections with vines. SO YEAH

Maximalism. The incorrect belief that one HAS to fill their level to the brim with fancy graphics for it to not be boring. I've provided here examples from a recent episode (Level Collection) as well as a much older one (Mario Classic) to show that it's been prevalent here since the beginning of time

while i agree that too much scenery is not a good thing by any stretch, i'd say neither of those are good examples.
- the top screenshot is aesthetically displeasing not necessarily because there's too many background objects, rather to me it seems it's just because nearly everything within eyeshot clashes stylistically to varying degrees.
- the problem in the bottom screenshot comes mainly from the fact that while the scenery is very large (which is fine on it's own as it fits thematically), the geography of the level is still designed primarily around the player's normal size which makes the package overall look a bit goofy. if it went for an approach similar to sm64's tiny huge island, i'd reckon relative screen space taken up by the scenery wouldn't be an issue.
though that's just my two cents, i recognize there's a degree of subjectivity to all of this.

1-Castle levels a.k.a. the last level of the world. There are many alternatives to replace castle levels, like airships, factories, temples, piramids, etc.
2-This is the worst thing I've seen. The checkpoint and powerup blocks 10 FEET BEFORE the boss battle. The checkpoints are supposed to be the middle of the level, not a reset place.
3-I hate the generic endings like "mAriO anD fRIends SavED tHa mOshRUm KiNdOM FrOm eVil gUy" and after that the episode finishes. Seriously, THE GAMES AREN'T MOVIES. In Super Mario Bros. after finishing the world 8 you can play again but the goombas are replaced with buzzy beetles, making it so challenging. In a game called Mario vs Donkey Kong Miniland Mayhem, the same thing happens. You unlock an "extra mode" and blablabla Challenging stuff blablabla. A countless amount of videogames have the same gimmick to challenge the player after unlock the good ending and make him/her/them play new levels/worlds and unlock the "true ending". The reward? "Hurrah to Mario our only hero" "You are a super player" "Thank you".

1. This one I can agree with, although I think it isn't as bad as you make it seem. I think castles are a bit generic, that is if you just make the typical lava castle, but I think adding twists to them makes them feel different from the typical castle, like making a ruined castle for example.
2. I can't agree with you at all on this one. I don't see what is wrong with adding a checkpoint or powerup before the boss fight, if anything, I find it to be beneficial since it makes it so the player can retry the boss a lot faster. Heck, even Mario World does this!
3. Well, I agree with you on the first part. I think these types of endings are honestly somewhat generic and bland, that is if they are made differently. But when talked about extra content after beating a certain episode? I'm sorry, but the closest thing you'll get is an extra world, but nothing other than that.

Any long or hard boss fight would get tedious and unfun if every time you die, you have to play through some level before you get another shot at the boss. Not really something we should be advocating for. Modern Nintendo games have started putting checkpoints before boss battles. The New Super Mario Bros games have a checkpoint right before the final Bowser fight, and Super Mario Odyssey has checkpoints very close to every boss arena.

I'll be more detailed. I don't like the "checkpoint right before boss battle" because in most episodes the Impossible and dangerous boss is just an overused Boom Boom, or any easy boss. If it's a REALLY tough boss, the "checkpoint right before boss battle" can/must be applied especially for final bosses. And I'm not going to talk about the boss' difficulty. I think too many people knows about that topic.
