As a quick solution -- just unzipped SMBX2 beta4 next to where SMBX was installed..
SMBX2 beta 4 isn't out yet. You probably have a fake version.
Oh, this is worrying, especially as the forum thread where the link was posted at has disappeared now...
Thanks for pointing this out!

Guys, if it doesnt work, it will take a very nice using a Virtual Machine. It works like the exact original hardware you download the original file.
(Example: VM + Windows 7 ISO will work like Window 7 exactly.)

Looks like you have a problem of OpenGL. Did you installed proper video drivers?

What CPU you have? Keep a note that SMBX is a very laggy damn, especially vanilla one, and to have it work with an approveable performance, you need a faster machine (CPU at least 3 Ghz or more). You can alternatively run SMBX2 on Wine, it will work with minor tweaking. For SMBX2 you can directly use native Linux build of PGE Editor and LunaTester will work (I took care for that, and Beta4 will work good).

News for Linux and macOS users!

With TheXTech build, it's now possible to play vanilla SMBX on Linux and macOS without wine: https://www.smbxgame.com/forums/ ... 2&p=367035, even on macOS 10.15 Catalina! With that, system requirements got being lower!

However, if need to want to use SMBX2, the Wine is still be needed.
