In the main window that opens. When the program starts you've got it well set up lower left hand side with uh, episode broswer, home then configure controls.
Configure controls leads to an snes styled controller, under that it gives the option to simply check off a box for Controller. I'm using that

Did you configured your controller correctly? Just wondering.
Have you tried clicking on a button in the "Configure Controls" page, and pressing a button on your controller to configure the controls? I learned a little bit later in the beta 4's first few months

Simply clicking Controller and checking the box made it easy to configure the controls in game, and thats done correctly.
I'm not used to all of the new interface yet and don't like asking too many stupid questions.
But I feel this one would be easier than trail and error.

Hello! I forgot to announce here, but I had already announced on multiple discord servers and at my twitter: https://twitter.com/Nvd5517/status/1234 ... 86401?s=19
An entire WohlSoft site is down due a strong trouble at my hosting provider called as "Masterhost". I did the full back up of all files and databases from wohlsoft and all subdomains on it, so, no worry, data is in safe. However, while the mainsite is down, SMBX2, SMBX38A and PGE downloads are unavailable now. I'll try to resume work of as soon as possible. Sorry you all for given inconveniences!

Playing Invasion 2 to test things, on the world map occassional the buttons lock up and it feels like a bit of controller lag until it returns.
Mapping buttons is already done and it works normally aside from that interruption.
Also I'm testing the new characters finally at the secret squirrel zone, Mega man is decent, but abundance of power ups seems to make him lose all ability to collect a power up.
the rest of the characters seem pretty interesting, especially the dude who drops bombs and floats and the wizard looking guy.
I know some of these are older characters now but I didn't use much beyond 1.3 for a long time. So far no compatibility issues with my third project.

IIRC there's a bug with The Lost Woods but this can be fixed by editing exit 2 in that level. Also, who is the wizard?

Every kind of controller behaves differently, which is why I asked for the model. Name, manufacturer... You know the stuff. Knowing what the controller model is will help in figuring out why that one is acting up.

Ah Its a street fighter Mad Catz arcade fight pad from 2016.
By the Wizard I meant Zelda, what does her ocarina do?

You aren't running the Beta 4 patch. Please download the patch from the website.
Is the patch included with the beta4 download or is it seperate? I still need to download Beta4. Wanted to wait for bugs/issues to be fixed.
In case you weren't able to see it because the website shows up wrong for you, here's what your options are when downloading.
I actually did not check the download page yet. Thanks.

It runs. It's super slow, but it runs. Ah, well, lolz
Sounds like you need a new laptop. Mine was $250 from Wal-Mart back in 2013 and has some minor issues but mostly runs smbx great.
If I could get a graphics card for this 2008 DELL desktop, I could maybe improve upon the performance, but all the same, I do need a new computer. Problem: I have no reliable method of getting extra money short of (redacted for NSFW reasons), and on disability, it's all gone to rent and maybe food at the beginning of the month.
I understand. It's hard having no extra money and trying to survive. My advice would be to save 20 dollars here or there in a jar until you have enough. Not being able to really do much because of lag sucks and then you can't contribute anything.

The patch has been included in the main download when it came out. Everyone who installed Beta4 before needs to download the patch itself and insert it.
I'm glad I waited then. Thanks Cedur. Your always a helpfully member and I appreciate it.

The wldx format doesn't work in game, attempting to load a wldx episode reverts to the 1.3 menu and it doesn't show up there. That this is an unsupported feature isn't mentioned anywhere in the Handbook, in fact, the only mention of world map files I could find is in the commands to display the credits in the Launcher. Actually, it works just fine in the Launcher but breaks in game, so I'm not sure what's going on... (Though by all indication it should crash with Error 52...)

Looks like it copies the current state of all blocks when first played and restores them when played again.

Not sure where the launcher's priorities lie, but if you have a .wld and .wldx file in the same folder, the game will fail to read the .wldx file. It might as well have the .mlp extension. If there's supposed to be ovveride code to make it work, then the code isn't running.
EDIT: From what I can find, it seems it simply hasn't been implemented yet, though the last mention of it was back when .lvlx files also didn't work at all. Since the only change seems to be fixing a bug with SMBX1.3's custom music feature and no development seems to have been done in the last 25.5 months it doesn't appear to be remotely a priority now... Maybe it's just me...

Wldx is on the roadmap. If it worked there'd be some mention somewhere of wld files becoming deprecated.

I think it would be really great to be able to return to the world map / exit the level from the pause menu, rather than exiting the whole game. If this proves too complicated with regard to hub episodes, maybe make it an option of just retrying the level.

Calm down. The patch contains a folder named "data". Simply drag and drop that folder into your Beta 4 installation, and click Yes when asked to replace existing files.
If you're struggling with that, you can download the full installer from the website, and create a new install. The installer contains the patch, so you don't have to worry about installing it that way.

So from what I can tell, wldx is waiting on stuff like this and the fancy stuff seen in the demo episode, plus the custom music thing being fixed. One thing I'd like to have in my abstract world is the black background changing to a particular image based on what level tile you were on last, though that might also be possible with the current LUA...

That's completely backwards. Support for wldx is a backend thing that needs building into LunaLua, and it's not waiting on any of these. Rather, things like "the custom music thing" are waiting on wldx support. The reason custom music doesn't work is that .wld files have no space to store that information in their file format. With wldx files, that space exists, and so these can be implemented.
