DISCLAIMER: This project is on delay, as I am developing an entirely new custom tileset for use within the game.
Hi! I'm new to the Super Mario Bros. X Forums, so I wanted to introduce you to my first new project; Super Mario Bros. Colour Shines!
It will take a while to finish, because I'm going solo on this one, but I'm still going all out! The entire game will have custom music composed/remixed by myself, and completely custom graphics, which, after some thinking, I've decided to create myself.
This is an example of what the music will be like:
My Remix of Toad Town: show https://www.dropbox.com/s/at3gxxpeb9zkd ... n.mp3?dl=0
This is a custom remix of Toad Town from Mario & Luigi Bowser's Inside Story, which will be used (obviously) for Toad Town. Please excuse the blank space at the beginning, I promise that will be fixed by the time the full release comes out.
Super Mario Bros. Colour Shines is based around the concept of a 2D Sidescrolling World Map, and a Super Mario 64-based Collection system in which you must collect the 5 colour shines in each course (Except Toad Town, with only 4 Colour Shines). Each course is heavily themed, and completely unique, and they all encourage exploration, as it's essential to discovering the Colour Shines and the 3 Star Coins within each course!
I have developed a story line for the project to explain the existence of Colour Shines and your reason for collecting them. The story is far from complicated, but it's enough to provide a motivation to complete the game:
Princess Peach explains the storyline within the first level: Mario! I'm so glad you could make it! Listen, the King of Technikingdom has sent us a distress call. The entire Kingdom has lost it's colour, it's become monochrome! The reason? It seems all the Colour Sprites have vanished from the Kingdom, for an unknown reason... they've been scattered across the globe! I told him you could help! Take this pipe, and begin the hunt! The Technikingdom is relying on you!
As I mentioned before, one of this game's defining features is the 2d Sidescrolling world map, based heavily on the exploration style of Super Mario 3D World's Map. Each World will have a selection of normal, 5 Shine levels, and one or two bonus levels based around specific mechanics, with only 1 or 2 Shines, reminiscent of the world structures in Super Mario Galaxy. There are 9 Worlds in total, and the total of levels within each one is currently undecided.
So far, 1 Level (Toad Town) has been completed, and another Level (Blockbound Fields) is in progress.
All in all, Super Mario Bros. Colour Shines is an extremely large-scale project, possibly a little ambitious, but with any luck it'll be super exciting when it's complete! I'll try and keep updating this topic whenever I add anything major to the game, such as a new level.
Screenshots will be available soon, but I am currently overhauling the graphic style with my own custom graphics.
Thank you for taking the time to view my post .

This looks really good! The graphics are pleasing, the concept is nice and i really like that hub map! (Also, the story of the kingdom losing it's color reminds me of Kirby and the Rainbow Curse!)
By the way, which version of SMBX are you using? 1.4.4 or 2.0? Just for curiosity.
Good luck with your project, it have great potential!

This looks rather promising, especially from what looks like your first project (given your post count). Keep it up, and this may become one of the better projects out there.

For someone's first project, this looks really amazing so far! Although since this is your first project, and it's really ambitious, I'd advise you to take your time with it. Also, I'm gonna guess that this is made in 1.4.4.

Can you confirm if this is a 1.4 project? It looks like 1.4 (Since I don't think that 2.0 can have stars and starcoins separate) but you should tell us because we need to know if we need that version, or otherwise people may assume it is 1.3 or 2.0.

A lot of people have been asking so I'll include that little morsel of information in the main post Again, thank you so much! I'll keep at it!

This is cool actually. I like how you use custom graphics in a lot of things. Heck, even the window and the castle walls are smoothly good. I want to see what's great in the full one!

Through global dataclass variables, they both can be done with Lua in SMBX 2. The project looks nice besides the fact that I wish it had a world map, but os far, it looks nice.

If you want to include multiple quotes in a single post then you can see some of the recent previous posts in the topic below. There is an option to quote by each one. You can't do this when editing posts though (I don't know if this is a forum or phpBB error (probably the latter))
