I found this "awesome" Sonic 2 hack called Sonic 2 Delta.
I read up on it via Sonic Retro and it did sound cool. It's Sonic 2 ported into the Sonic 3 engine with all beta levels edited to not seem out of place and added back in along with all Sonic 1 zones.
The issue? They're an absolute chore to play through. All the levels are extremely barren except Genocide City act 2 and Hidden Palace act one.
Scratch that, Genocide City two is literally fucking chemical plant 1 with a different background. If you were going to copy any level, why chemical plant? The original level was Metropolis 3, why not use that one? It just doesn't make sense.
It also says no where on the hacks page that Metropolis 2 reuses the layout of Chemical Plant 1. It says "The foreground also reuses graphics from Chemical Plant Zone" when it should say "the layout is re used from chemical plant zone act 1". There are so many things that could have been done to fix this, he could have:
-Changed the background and name of Metropolis 3 into Genocide City 3 AND removed the original Metropolis 3.
-Removed Chemical Plant 1
-Removed Genocide City 2 all together, since the first act is completely original.
The other beta zones, Winter Hill, Dust Hill, and Wood Zone well a bit barren are still new zones. There are also some nasty glitches that occur all too often. For example, when you die in a zone, while the act marker is being displayed certain graphics freak out. This is most notable in the under water sections where all the bubbles glitch out.
