I remember playing this interesting Super Mario World hack called Brutal Mario (a very HDMA and ASM-heavy hack, btw) that had a "Dark Castle" level with this background.

Would have been easier if the SMB3 backgrounds didn't connected with the darn cloud background, then I think this would look a bit better.
