That's for people. Try to smash them with a moving layer and they'll show that effect when they die (obviously you mustn't set them to friendly).

As long as we're on this topic, what about effect-70? What's it for?

Because I know the history rather well than you are!

Also now we're talking about death effects that are getting up to the parking departure.

Sinem wrote:Why does this concern you though? Is there a reason for it? Afterall it's a Grinder and iirc they weren't killable in smw also. What about Blaarg? Why the Grinder? Blaarg is unkillable and has no effect but why does the Grinder have one? This is a job for SMBX MYSTERY LEAD BY JOEY.

Inb you report this post and claim i think i own the place.

It's my opinion
Actually it was killable in SMW. You had to slide into a Grinder via a Triangle Block in one of the fortresses. This would kill it, but make it display a glitched death effect as it fell off screen, because the player was not meant to be able to kill it.

Why is this topic a thing.

Who cares if a Grinder has a death effect, whether or not it's even used ingame.

Besides the image, this will have 0 effect on any episode whatsoever, the death effect is probably just there for when you erase it in the editor, nothing else. Nearly everything else in the editor goes out the same way, so Redigit just programmed it to die that way when erased in the editor.

Everything that could possibly be a topic is a topic here.

Maybe it was killable at one point in development!

I'm not sure, it's probably some kind of invisible effect that's used without your knowing.

This is probably the most valid answer. Roto-Disc is the same. In SMBX it too is indestructible, therefore it seemingly has no use for its effect. Also, please don't reply with pictures.

Then just make a custom graphic replace it and do everything the player can possibly do in the editor and I'm sure you'd find it quick enough. Judging by the fact it is in the group of stars and dust clouds, it probably has something to do with explosions, broken objects or collisions.

TNT has a point though. He could just asked this in the irc chat which he goes on also.

Yes but he needs to uphold his topic-per-post quota.

To answer a question from a while back, I would imagine the reason that the Blaarg doesn't have a death effect is that its sprite has no lower body; it would look really strange if it fell off the screen like most enemies.

And yeah the grinder probably has a death animation because it was planned to be killable at one point or something, or just that Redigit was drunk when he made the game, as many others have said. Also as many others have said, the death animation is used in the editor so I guess it is technically "used" in that sense.

Video games often have a lot of unused stuff like this, check out http://tcrf.net/ or something.

Also grinders getting crushed by moving platforms will show it.
