Grinder death effect?

Postby HeroLinik » Mon Jul 20, 2015 1:27 pm

What's erked me a little is that there's a death effect for the Grinder. However, it's impossible to kill it, as it's immune to the player's hammers, fireballs or any of their powerups, and even trying to run an NPC into it will just kill that NPC, and the Grinder will remain unscathed.

Why does the Grinder have a death effect when it's literally unkillable?

The lava could kill it, has anyone ever tried to put Nofireball or noiceball on it?

If it falls into the lava then the Grinder just poofs, and doesn't show the death effect. Putting NPC codes on it doesn't kill it either.

Maybe you can use LunaLua to make the Grinder mortal?

Why does this concern you though? Is there a reason for it? Afterall it's a Grinder and iirc they weren't killable in smw also. What about Blaarg? Why the Grinder? Blaarg is unkillable and has no effect but why does the Grinder have one? This is a job for SMBX MYSTERY LEAD BY JOEY.

Inb you report this post and claim i think i own the place.

It's my opinion

My guess is that the grinder's death effect is there just for an natural death once you delete it via in the level editor but after that when it comes to the main game it doesn't really have a purpose anymore what so ever.

Also, I never tried it by myself but what will actually happen if you let a grinder crush itself by the cealing or anything like that?

I've tried that, but it simply takes the Grinder with it, the Grinder doesn't die.

Ok as far as i know a Grinder is a Saw also that cuts wood. So did you ever see a Grinder die? Like for real now a Grinder is not a living object. So yeah... it's useless.

Grinder's death effect is just there for editing purposes to my knowledge (well it's useless)... also it's best to make it like poof like what you do with the NPC tank pieces rather than the actual death effect but that's unchangeable in SMBX... until VSMBX and PGE of course lol.

Yeah, that's the only use. But that doesn't explain another question that I'm going to throw up: why does the Blargg, which can't be killed, not have a death effect, but the Grinder has one?

Because Blargg is unkillable unless you have a Yoshi.

Not true. That was when SMBX 1.3 was on developement and not in the earlier versions where Blargg was even implemented.

If you haven't noticed, SMB3 Mushroom has a death effect too. Where is your god now? :0

How do you know he wasn't always drunk?

Also the mushroom effect is used when a non friendly "friendly npc" like Toad is touched by an enemy.
