No, it'd still give everyone too much information - for example, the mafia kills someone and the traitors appear to be killing someone else that isn't part of the mafia, but he actually didn't get killed - for the mafia he'd be confirmed town. Just don't fuck up.

Yeah, I agree with that. It wouldn't work as well as you'd think; in fact, it would just advantage certain teams. Just be careful and make sure the right people are killed.
