Ripping Sprites

Postby silent_ » Sun Mar 23, 2014 1:34 pm

My question shall remain simple, and I'd like to ask how do you rip sprites into SMBX replacing an NPC or something else? For instance, if I was wanting to get a sprite from this website: http://tsgk.captainn.net/?p=showsheets&t=sr&sr=4, how would I do that? Step-by-step tutorial please, I'm bad at following complicated directions.

Do you want a tutorial with adding frames and graphic size, or just replacing a graphic with no npc modifications?

-right-click save image as or drag & drop the image into your painting program
-resize it to be 2x2 pixels because all spritesheets are 1x1, in Paint.NET you can do this using the Resize Image function, hotkey Ctrl+R
-when resizing, use the "Next Neightbour" type which you can select. It prevents the image from blurring
-select the area on the image you want and
a) paste it onto the NPC's .gif file
b) paste it onto a new file which you will then design to be the new npc .gif file. I do this when the new sprite is too large/small or has more/less frames
-make sure the background is black in the end and you make a mask for it
This is pretty simple I'd say. Try it out. I can make an image tutorial if you still need help.

There's no "or" to it; both things you mentioned would be appreciated to include in your image tutorial.

If that's STILL too complicated, you should start trying to understand what I'm trying to tell you maybe.
you can even rip the graphics from the screen! isn't that handsome?
