Super X?

So I read a long while ago that Redigit was making a retool of SMBX which would essentially be an update over the then 1.3, but it was going to be called Super X, now as you should have noticed the Mario part is missing. This suggests (and it actually was the case) that he was going to use non-Mario graphics and music. SMBX is known for its modding, especially the case with custom graphics and music, so this seems to be likely coming from someone like Redigit. It raised a few questions, one of them being that someone could just put on the Mario graphics and music and make it behave like SMBX, then release it as an SMBX update.

However, that's all I know about it. Can someone file me in on what Super X really is?

A rumor is all it is. I once heard it would have Terraria graphics, which is just incredibly silly and screams "fan theory".

This was a project that Redigit brought up in 2012. He created some graphics for it as well and wanted for it to basically be SMBX without Mario, so there'd be no copyright infringement. He then came back in 2013 and made a topic on Knux's forum asking something to the effect of "what would you guys think if I made SMBX without Mario".

Redigit never updated us with any progress, but I believe a few people in the Terraria community (notably his wife, Cenx) know about it. My guess is that it's a distant idea that Redigit may or may not actually develop one day, but I suppose there could be progress on it that's been shared only with the Terraria team (that's unlikely, though).
