Character Creation/Approval Thread

In this thread you can create and discuss characters to be used in RPs.

At the moment, only characters from the Marioverse will be allowed. Don't worry, more franchises will be available for use soon.

You are free to provide as much information about your character as you want, but they must follow this template at minimum:

Name: Your character's first name. Last names generally are not typical in the Marioverse unless they are the name of the species (e.g. Joey Parabeetle).
Gender: The gender of your character, if applicable.
Age: How old is your character? Actual age in years is not required. Feel free to just put "young", "old", or "normal" - a general range is all we really need.
Species: Your character's species.
Appearance: What does your character have that visually differentiates them from the rest of their species?
Personality: Describe what your character is like personally - are they high-strung or laid-back? Do they make friends easily or are they shy?
Background: Who is your character? Where did they come from? What friends and family members do they have? What was their childhood like? This section should be a substantial description of your character (at least 2 paragraphs) that provides outlook on what makes them unique. Develop this as much as you want, but keep it PG-13.

Also are species like Kong applicable? It's kind of iffy whether they're in the Marioverse or not. Donkey Kong existed early in Donkey Kong, then moved into Mario Kart and Mario Party, so it's pretty evident that the Kongs exist in the Marioverse, hmm? I find that kind of interesting and would come up with some theory to explain why I think that but I don't want to go too off-topic here, just wondering if Kongs would be applicable as a species.

I don't think we should allow Kongs for the same reason we're not allowing humans - while they do exist in the Marioverse, there are no generic members of their species. A Kong or human character would be out-of-place unless they were somehow related to the other Kongs and humans, and we're not doing that for the same reason we won't allow people to RP as actual characters that already exist (you would be modifying pre-existing characters too much).

Name: Doobel.

Gender: Male.

Age: Young Adult.

Species: Duplighosts.

Appearance: Usually wears a blue-yellow wizards hat, and a blue tie. He's a bit smaller than the usual Duplighost, since he's relatively young. he also has an unusual purple tint.

Personality: Doobel is patient and quiet, and he never seems to get tired. He also loves to trick people by mimmicking others, and is quite good at it. Due to this, he can sometimes be a real nuisance to be with. Doobel is brave and confident, however. Doobel prefers being alone, and thinks friends would only be in his way.

Backstory: Doobel has always dreamt of becoming as famous as his idol, Doopliss. He could immitate others so well, it was impossible to tell wether or not it was actually the real person. This quickly changed, however, when Doopliss was beaten by Mario & Co in Twilight Town (PMTTYD). The loss destroyed Doopliss. He swore vengeance on Mario, and would spend entire days sitting in his room plotting his revenge. This, in turn, had a negative effect on Doobel. When he saw his greatest hero slowly descending into madness, he made a decision. He would go after Mario, and avenge Doopliss. He left Twilight Town that very night.
Since then, Doobel started stealing identities. It was all too easy. He would choose a victim, then spent days studying their way of speech and following their daily routine. After that, he would erase their mind using his Magic Lantern and keep their identity. Doobel's identity theft didn't go unnoticed, however. There was a huge bounty on his head, so he was always on the run. However with his ability, Doobel could gain anyone's trust, thus easily avoid any bounty hunters. This slowly turned Doobel into a silent, identity-stealing felon.

Appearance: A lightly tinted steel-blue Chicken with a blue comb and wattle to match with it's feathers. It also happens to wear black triangle shades to hide it's white eyes. It has long talons due to the lack of attention it receives from anybody, and it's legs are a rather dull white.
Personality: Shy around anybody who's much bigger than it, running away from anybody, especially if they're out of it's species
Background: Chickadee was born as a hen, in which later over time, it became a rooster due to a rare genetic mutation. In the coop where it was born, domestic abuse was rampant. The Hens would always abuse the Roosters, overpowering them and taking what they had from them, mainly their food and living space. Chickadee soon enough had enough of seeing the roosters get bossed around by the hens, so it then held a revolt with the Roosters to overpower the hens and take back their rights as a fellow chicken. The process failed, and they were soon taken out of the coop to be delivered to the nearest McKoopa's over in Dinosaur World for the newest Egg Sandwich Delight, run by the Koopa King himself. Once they arrived to the restaurant though, Bowser noticed that they were all Roosters and unable to lay eggs, so he decided to try to slay them for their delicioso rooster meat. The Roosters were all old and such, and decided to let Chickadee live, as it was both special as it was a natural born transgender chicken, and because Chickadee was the youngest of the bunch. Before they helped Chickadee out of the giant steel cage they were being held in, the alpha rooster decided to give Chickadee his premium shades as a memento to remember the old flock. Now Chickadee roams the world, searching for it's old coop and take revenge on the hens that did that to Chickadee's innocent flock of roosters.

This is a very interesting character and I would love to see Joey approve Xyr!

1. did you know I was semi responsible for this? on the smbx minecraft Skype group I brought up that a chicken is marioverse (alongside a bunch of other animals that were in the list joey linked) and then this all happened. im just glad that this all happened
2. is my character just non-existant? why hasn't it been commented on/approved/disapproved

Hydrodino: Background info is a bit too gruesome and most of it seems like random bits of information that don't fit together. Also, you need to post with better English.

Retro: I'm not sure if the color-changing mechanic is a good idea if you're trying to define the personality types for all purple/cyan/etc. Yoshis. Needs more background and needs to be posted in much better English.

Note (I don't think he needs "the Boo"): Needs a lot more background info and maybe some more personality development.

Doobel: The name kind of sounds weird but I guess that comes down to my own personal preference. You need to develop the background info more and not focus on Doopliss; it may be a good idea to not make him Doopliss's son.

Chickadee: Chicken is too generic of a species, sorry. I like the McKoopa's idea, though. Also, male/female are the only applicable options for gender (unless there are species in the Marioverse that are genderless, but most of them aren't).

Actually, almost all of the species in the Marioverse are genderless, such as Koopa, Goomba, Boo, Toad, Parabeetle, Buzzy Beetle, Chargin' Chuck, Luma, etc..

And can you define what species are generic ahead of time? Technically Koopas and Goombas are generic species, so I think you should allow all species except Kong and Human, or give us a solid list of generic species that can't be used before people go and make characters with those species.

At this point people won't really have characters because they're all getting disapproved lol.

What about the one from Bowser's Inside Story, and go from there? Expand on it, adding elements from past Mario games. Would that work?

Gender: Male
Age: 16
Species: Underground-Variant Goomba
Appearance: Pale blue skin, black shoes, orange headphones, shades strapped around his neck with a string, and a blue baseball cap with an yellow trim on it.
Personality: A pretty chill Goomba who normally runs on the neutral side of things. Isn't afraid to get involved in things, but won't start a fight on his own terms. Enjoys playing with his Goomba friends, mainly in a friendly game of street Basketball.
Background: Willard was once your average, run-of-the-mill Goomba, he loved living with his mother out in the sewers of Brooklyn, New York. He went to school, he got average grades in the Bowser Academy for Goombas. He went home and talked with his Mother about how his day was, ate the Mushrooms she made for him and her while his dad was out in the military, serving under Bowser. One day though, they got a message from the Paratroopa mail saying his Father died to the boot of one of the plumber brothers. Willard was saddened, and so was his Mother. He suggested the idea that he should go to the military to take revenge for his Dad. His Mother didn't like the idea, so she refused the idea. This only enraged Willard, thinking that his Mother thought weakly of him. The next day, he decided to play with his friends while at the park, telling them about his dad and how he wanted to enlist in the military. One of his friend's just scoffed, saying that he WAS indeed too weak to go, even for a subspecies of a Goomba. This angered Willard even more, and so he begin to attack his friend who called him out. He got in one little fight and his mom got scared, she said 'You're movin' with your auntie and uncle in Bel Air'. He begged and pleaded with her day after day, but she packed my suit case and sent him on his way. She gave him a kiss and then she gave his ticket. He put his Walkman on and said, 'I might as well kick it'. First class, yo this is bad, drinking orange juice out of a champagne glass. Is this what the people of Bel-Air living like? Hmmmmm this might be alright. But wait I hear they're prissy, bourgeois, all that, is this the type of place that they just send this cool cat? I don't think so, I'll see when I get there, I hope they're prepared for the prince of Bel-Air. Well, the plane landed and when I came out, there was a dude who looked like a cop standing there with my name out. I ain't trying to get arrested yet, I just got here, I sprang with the quickness like lightning, disappeared. I whistled for a cab and when it came near, the license plate said fresh and it had dice in the mirror. If anything I could say that this cab was rare. But I thought 'Nah, forget it' - 'Yo, holmes to Bel Air'. I pulled up to the house about 7 or 8, and I yelled to the cabbie 'Yo holmes smell ya later'. I looked at my kingdom, I was finally there,to sit on my throne as the Prince of Bel Air.

"Generic" might not've been the best word - I guess in this case I mean species that exist both in the Marioverse and in our world and aren't well-defined in the Marioverse.

All of the games exist in the same universe/general area, and everything is part of the same canon. It'll be up to the RP creators as to which areas they want to set their RPs in.


I'll go ahead and approve Doobel, Waddle Derp, on the grounds that you make sure you use proper English grammar/spelling/etc. when making posts. I would appreciate it if you'd edit out the spelling mistakes.

Frost: I think you need to remove the parts about autism/Asperger's, and you should add some more background on who Frost is instead of just elaborating on his powers. He's pretty overpowered, so maybe tone it down to just being able to use the ice balls.
