Today i've made a new level, the graphics took me about an hour to make
and then so did the level, so it's about 2 hours work, anyway I hope you
enjoy the level.
Design Usage:
The whole Design related to SMB2 but more Hill like terrain was very nice. It makes it really likely for a Mountain Area like this. Well, there is a low amount of exploration though like that you just go right and that was basically it. the background choice was nice. A little recolor of the regular SMB3 Grass Hills which fits for the tiles at the foreground. It was also a good thing for adding grass inside these rocks like what SMW did which was very nice. I also noticed at the tileset that inside there are those SMB2 cracked Blocks which were normally used as breaking through with Bombs. Honestly, that was very clever for using that as regular Tileset by covering grass with it. The Level was nice designed with multiple background objects placed around that fits, one area however was a bit small by avoiding Enemies but there is only one anyway. The Levels length was a bit short with no Halfway Point but it was nicely executed by the length for SMB2 styled Levels like that. At least you could put a few secrets around the Area to explore a bit more but eh, old school Levels aren't really explorative at the time like SMB. It would of been nice to have more rooms to explore. Also the one Area it seems to be a bit difficult for newer players that you have to go right by a 3 blocks high and a Pit right next to it (Video!).
NPC Placements:
NPCs like Enemies and all sort of Items was ok to nice. We do have a different variety of SMB2 Enemies that are nicely placed out but Coins was a bit lacky. You could add more around this Level. Power Up placements was nice enough for this Level but what is the point of giving players only Fire Flowers? Every enemies are immune to Fireballs so your Fire Power has no use what so ever throughout the entire Level. You could add something different like Ice Flowers or something to give the player a variety to destroy enemies and not only you have to pick them up and toss it to other enemies or to drop them into pits. Oh and there is one place that you gain a 3UP Moon that easily once you use a Enemy to jump up there. At least put the Moon on a more difficult Area or else you gain a 3UP very easily. Also there seems that we do not have any Plants to plug up like some Veggies to throw, Power Ups to find or Enemies. I guess the whole Bonus Blocks was to be different instead of the plants you want to plug up so that's ok. The Boss however, Birdo, was decent but it was placed not all that well because she falls from a higher Block and loses her movements against the block. You should place more Blocks at the bottom so she won't fall.
