If you haven't noticed already, the semi-mysterious #roleplay channel popped up in the Discord server a while ago, and hasn't really had any legitimate use until now.
Seeing the desire for a revival, Pseudo and I have agreed upon an official-unofficial forum roleplay, utilizing some basic rules/guidelines so things don't get crazy. If you have never heard of or played Dungeons & Dragons, then do not hesitate, because we will be willing to guide you through the steps of creating your first character and joining in your first roleplay.
First, some simple Q&A:
Q. What kind of setting can I expect from the basic rule set presented here?
A. The base rule set that we will be commonly referencing or utilizing is the Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition rule set, which employs a medieval fantasy setting (similar to that of The Lord of the Rings).
Q. Can the rules be modified to fit any genre/setting?
A. Most certainly, though we aren't looking at any official alternative settings yet, as we feel people will need to get adjusted to the current rules, we will be open to alternatives in the future.
Q. Can I host my own games?
A. At the moment, no. We would like to run a test game or two so people can get a feel for the system before giving people the ability to host their own games.
Q. Why is this not in its own subforum?
A. This isn't entirely official yet, as we're still establishing and trying out these rules to see how people work with them. If things look promising, we will look into finalizing this.
To get started with making your character, you can follow through the steps here: https://astranauta.github.io/rules.html ... Characters
As for Ability Score generation, you'll want to do Point Buy or Array, your choice: https://astranauta.github.io/statgen.html#1
Record all your options on the character sheet below, which you can download and edit with MSPaint or Paint.NET or whatever else you use.
Template Character Sheet (Right-Click and Save Image)
( https://www.dropbox.com/s/x91teq2zuwkea ... e.pdf?dl=0 or you can download this snazzy form-fillable PDF )
( http://www.orcpub.com/ or use this neat website! )
If you need help with creating your character, you can ping me or DarkMatt on Discord or ask for help in #roleplay. Most of the directions should be pretty straightforward, but we'll be there to help. Once you're finished, post your character here.
(alternatively if you don't want to do all that character sheet stuff you can just type your character up in a readable format with all the necessary things with BBCode or whatever else you want to do, I won't mind)

Talot is a region full of steep cliffs and mountains. The valleys are full of dangerous monsters.
However, precious gems can be found inside of those mountains. Due to the surroundings, it is impossible for most creatures to reach those unharmed.
Aarakroca are one of the few races that can due to their ability to fly. Some small Aarakocra towns were formed on top of the mountains or at the side of cliffs, and many products can only be get through imports due to the lack of vegetation up in the mountains.
Due to the small range most Talot Aarakocra have to operate under, they have less flight speed than most other Aarakocra. On the other hand, they developed Darkvision in order to mine more efficiently. Their bodies are less agile and somewhat more muscular due to the hard work done in the mines.
Male Aarakocra are expected to work in the mines in some shape or form or help the community in other ways due to the Talot Aarakocra being isolated from other races and as such having much more tight-knit communities.
Talot Aarakocra are very owl-like: They have thick red, brown or grey feathers and a round head with slim eyes that are able to see even in the darkness of the mines. Their wings are muscular but small, and they are able to grab tools and objects with their wings as well as their talons. The thick feathers are able to warm them in the cold heights, meaning they don't need to wear thick clothes. Their beaks are rather short.
Although being trained to be a miner, Vardo always had another interest: Playing instruments, specifically the Lyre. However, the elders of the village didn't approve and forced him to abandon his passion. This led him to never feel much of a connection to his community, and he dreaded working in the mines.
One fateful night, Vardo packed together his Lyre, carved from rocks and adorned with wood in the shape of wings, and a Jasper Ring that was given to him at birth as well as some objects needed for survival together and fled from his hometown, hoping to find success and appreciation outside of the confines of the miner community. With nothing but an old map to guide him, his plan was to travel from town to town, entertaining others in Inns and Taverns.
He wants to learn a lot about the world due to never having experienced anything outside of Talot growing up. He's aware that he doesn't know much about the people he encounters, but strives to learn a lot about them, partly in order to incorporate these stories into his songs. Due to the dangerous monsters in the Talot valleys, Talot Aarakocra are used to sleeping in high places and tend to avoid low altitudes whenever possible. This of course is unnecessary in most places.
However, he does try his best to accomodate his lock of knowledge and tries not to cause any trouble. His Jasper Ring and his Lyre server as reminders of the positive aspects of his home.
The rich vegetation and the results of that are a new experience for Vardo; he had imagined them as being amazing but the reality is proving to be better than his expectations. However, he may be a bit too trusting of unknown people and environments, partly due to it being this way back in his hometown where everybody helped everybody.
Vardo has thick red feathers all over his body and is rather short at 4 ft 11 in. His brown eyes seem to gaze into your soul due to their shape.
All Eyes on You: Aarakocra are already an unusual race, and the unique appearance of Talot Aarakocra only adds to that.

In addition, you can find food and fresh water for yourself and up to five other people each day, provided that the land offers berries, small game, water, and so forth.
Origin: Exile
Personality: Uncaring towards people he doesn't know,
rude among civilized told. Only cared for his brother and his closest friend. Is a mercenary, and does jobs for his own survival, not for greed.
Backstory: Has lived his early life in a hidden village whose members have control over a primordial elements. Wilfire had control over the flames. The people born in the village were taught the primordial language since they were children. His brother was his only alive family, and his closest friend was an elf, that taught Wilfire how to speak the language of elves. However one day, his fire power went wild, and hurt several people. With the fear that this happened again, the leader exiled him from the village. The only people that were against the exile were his brother and close friend, that left along with him. They lived in the forest for a while, but eventually had to become mercenaries. They lived for a long time together, until a cave started to fall apart while they were in there, and the three got separated during the confusion. Due to a soul connection that Wilfire had with his companions, made so they could recognize each other, and share power, he knew his Brother and friend were alive. Since that day, he looks for his companions, doing jobs and exploring different places in hopes to find them.
Personality Trait: I place no stock in wealthy or well-mannered folk. Money and manners won’t save you from a hungry owlbear.
Ideal: Change. Life is like the seasons, in constant change, and we must change with it.

OP wrote:Q. Can the rules be modified to fit any genre/setting?
A. Most certainly, though we aren't looking at any official alternative settings yet, as we feel people will need to get adjusted to the current rules, we will be open to alternatives in the future.
Your Mario roleplay is already being contemplated.

What if I wanna make my own character using either stats from other RPG games (Example: the first 6 final fantasies, Super Mario RPG, etc.) or from my own custom system of creating a character *? If no, then sorry for wasting y'all time!
*My system of creating a character is using a set of Polyhedral 7 dice set if y'all are wondering.
Stats & what Polyhedral dice to use for each:
- MP: Magic points, use when performing any magical attacks or healing spells D10/5(2)
- EP: Energy points, use when performing any normal attacks or weapons (D10 + D10)3
- Attack: The amount of damage dealt to your opponent! You decide
- Defense: Reduce the amount of damage dealt from enemy attacks! You decide
- Dexterity: This stat determines the amount of damage or HP & EP restored from magic spells D20
- Luck: Chance of scoring a critical hit! (Example, 1 = 1%, 2 = 5%, 3 = 8.33%, 4 = 10% D4
- Speed: Depending on the character's speed, the character with the highest speed goes first. D6
- Charm: A custom stat I created, discounts all magical spells & normal attacks by a certain amount. (Example: 1 = 0%, 2 = 10%, 3 = 15%, 4 = 20%, 5 = 25%, 6 = 30%, 7 = 35%, 8 = 40%) D8
Badge stat is optional! Same as the badges from Paper Mario & Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door! D12

Wanderer: You have an excellent memory for maps and geography, and you can always recall the general layout of terrain, settlements, and other features around you. In addition, you can find food and fresh water for yourself and up to five other people each day, provided that the land offers berries, small game, water, and so forth.
Second Wind: Second Wind
You have a limited well of stamina that you can draw on to protect yourself from harm. On your turn, you can use a bonus action to regain hit points equal to 1d10 + your fighter level. Once you use this feature, you must finish a short or long rest before you can use it again.
Origin: Exile
Personality: Rarely trusts people he doesn't know, rude among civilized folk. Only truly trusted and really cared for his brother and his closest friend.
Bond: My family is the most important thing in my life, even when it is far from me.
Flaw: I am slow to trust members of other races, tribes, and societies.

Seems like a fairly good start, but I'm confused about some of the picks. Sorcerer's don't get any armor proficiency, so having armor won't really do you any good, on top of that, you've got Expertise in skills, and Expertise is only granted to Bards and Rogues I believe. If you're able to be in Discord, I can help you out a lot easier in #roleplay.

Looks like we've got the basis for some groups already. Also, pretty much everyone in Group 1 has decided that they're set for the most part, so we've set a deadline to Monday/May 28th to finish your character for Group 1 before that starts up.
Group 1
Megar: Human Ranger
DarkMatt: Warforged Wizard
Pseudo: Mountain Dwarf Paladin
Spinda: Aarakocra Bard (Rito)
Timelord: Human Rogue
PixelPest: Half-Elf Sorcerer(?)
Group 2
Ryaa: Ryaa (please make a character)
Ditchen: Tiefling Cleric
Sanct: Wood Elf Ranger
Mechdragon: undetermined?
Thg1: Human Fighter
Crusher: Half-Elf Warlock
Witchking: Vampire Sorcerer(?)
