PaperPlayerX Presents: The Oblate Spheroid Challenge

PaperPlayerX Presents: The Oblate Spheroid Challenge
(aka PaperPlayerX's completely-out-of-the-blue level contest)

So this is a really out-of-the-blue level contest idea I had.

Essentially, this contest revolves around the theme of levels that revolve around traversing an oblate spheroid-shaped level (Giant Egg from a2xt is an example of a level like this). Mostly anything can go, but there are 2 important rules:

-Levels MUST follow the theme of an oblate spheroid that you travel around. Think of it as making a planet with no gravity-pulling core, then build a level around (and inside, if you want to) it. Again, use Giant Egg as an example.
-Levels MUST end with a star, no exceptions. If you want to include a secret star, that's fine, but if you want to include more stars, the rest MUST be SMW.

If you decide to sign up to make a level, you need to agree to the following:
Spoiler: show
In order for your level to be accepted, you must agree to your level being placed in a hub, organized by difficulty and NOT rank. You must also agree to, if it occurs, that your level can be altered or made into a secret level should it contain:
-Gamebreaking elements (impossible areas, place you can get stuck, etc.)
-OP powerups in areas they shouldn't be (ex: a blue boot that you can carry all the way to the star)
-Broken events, layers, etc.
-Anything else the judges and I see fit to change ONLY if absolutely necessary
Joke levels and levels that don't follow the theme will NOT be judged and will NOT be part of the contest.
If you decide to sign up to be a level judge for this contest, you need to agree to the following:
Spoiler: show
If you decide to judge, you must agree on judging based on the following criteria on a 0 to 10 scale:
Gameplay (How enjoyable is the level? Are the gimmicks fun and interesting, if any? Is it too long, too short, or just right?)
Design (How well is the level put together, and how is the theme used?)
Atmosphere (Do the graphics and music make sense for the level's overall theme? Do the graphics and music work well together, and with the design and gameplay?)
Replay Value (Would you play this level again and again? )
Total (Out of 40)
If you want to judge AND design a level, you (obviously) won't be able to judge it. Instead, an alternative judge (or me) will judge the level along with everyone else.
(Decided to do a Nien, the bold and italicized parts are the real usernames)
Participants:
Too koolkat for school (koolkat)
Keparoony (Kep)
Soup Ear Star (SuperiorStar)
St. Murphington Marios (MurphMario)
ZelstaMader21 (ZeldaMaster12)
Fujiwara No Mokou (MECHDRAGON777)
Nacknime (Nickname)

Judges:
Little Big Boo (Little Boo)
2SpookyGLD4Me (GLD4)
Too koolkat for school (koolkat)
Gettin' Twiggy with it(Turtwig)
Alt. Judge: Fujiwara No Mokou (MECHDRAGON777)

typicaluser1337 wrote:Why are you hosting a contest?
No reason, just felt like having a contest.
typicaluser1337 wrote:What's my reward if I win?
That's a surprise!
typicaluser1337 wrote:How many stars can I have in my level?
If you're insane, you can have as many as you want I'd recommend between 1 and 3 stars. 4 is tricky, and 5 is really pushing it (not that anyone I know has put 5 stars in an SMBX level).
typicaluser1337 wrote:Does my level have to be strictly nonlinear?
That's a tough question to answer. If you want to go the extra mile and have a variety of paths and backtracking and all that jazz, you can. If you want to keep it simple and just have a "from point A to point B," kind of level, that's also fine, as long as it fits with the theme. Giant Egg is one of those "point A to point B" levels. You pretty much just circle the "egg" once, collect the leek, and head through the door to the exit.
Good luck (if anyone actually enters the contest)!

*cough*my CC7 level*cough*

On-topic, this is a pretty cool idea. I'll participate. No promises that I'll get a level in, though.

???
You can't be a backup judge because you're the one judging AND participating (which I assumed meant you were gonna make a level). You CAN be a regular judge though. I would just need someone ELSE to be a back-up judge (or me, if no one offers).

I'll be a normal judge then. But can I be creative with my judging? Your format limits creativity :(

Explain the creativity part further and I'll see what I can do.

I will join if the due date is in late November or early December!

Sign me up as "Fujiwara No Mokou" and I will see if I can hit 21 stars!

If explained, can I used glitches?

Tw-tw-twe-how?-TWENTY ONE???
If you can do that...then go right on ahead. Just be aware that, if you make a level with 21 stars, you probably aren't gonna get bonus points for the extra effort (unless you can pull it off REALLY well!)
As for glitches...what kind of glitches? If it's simple stuff like sliding though walls, then go right on ahead. Don't use glitches that are really hard to pull off though, and I wouldn't recommend using a whole lot of glitches.

Also, there is no due date until I have at least 3 judges (which I do have) and at least 10 or 15 levels submitted (which I don't have yet). :P
