I didn't know that 1.4 was still getting updates! I thought it was abandoned?

Nope! It's still getting updates and patches!
Well now I know that I can still use the legacy editor! PGE doesn't feel right to me.

How do I go about treating one version or another? I was under the impression that 2.0 was the official build and thus was the best way to make a Mario game. Does this version work WITH or separately from the 2.0 version?

I am quite confused about so many version numbers.

SMBX38A is a completely unrelated engine, with different backend, physics, and capabilities than SMBX. SMBX 2.0 is an extension by a new development team, built on top of Redigits original SMBX, but SMBX38A (sometimes called "1.4", but SMBX38A or 38A is often preferred to avoid confusion) is completely programmed from scratch.

Levels made in SMBX38A are not compatible with 2.0, or 1.3. Levels made in 1.3 CAN be converted to 38A's format, but the different physics doesn't guarantee complete compatibility. Levels made in 2.0 are not compatible with 38A or 1.3 either, but it does guarantee compatibility with levels made in 1.3 due to being built on the same engine.

TL;DR:
SMBX 2.0 is an extension of SMBX
SMBX38A (sometimes called "1.4") is a new engine that resembles SMBX.

2.0 provides greater customisability and other benefits, while 38A provides (at the moment) more out-of-the-box NPCs and powerups.

I see. I will try it sometime. But in the meantime, I am currently making some levels in 2.0 that I have been enjoying and working really hard on in the meantime. It takes a lot of effort, but it is quite a joyful experience so far.

Since a lot of people are using this so called SMBX 38A/1.4.4, it wouldn't hurt for me to try it.

For now, the bosses' AI has been fixed in this version and hooray for the developer of 38-A did this.

Wasn't it already removed in 1.4.3? I remember not being able to attach parachutes to big NPC in that version too.

It sounds like Patch 1 got released but my episode is not compatible with this and uncomfy. I had to get back in 1.4.3 to continue my episode, I feel like my episode is getting hiatus. Let's say that I'll wait for Patch 2.

Really awesome to see 1.4 is continuing to be worked on! It's honestly my preferred editor between it and 2.0, believe it or not. Can't wait to see more.
