The angry desert

They're not that bad, but they're not that good either.

The angry desert

Postby TDK » Fri Jan 08, 2016 5:09 pm

This is an SMB3 desert level with the angry sun, so it required LunaLua.
It's based on SMB3 levels so it's quite short and has no checkpoint.

Question, did you make the Angry Sun immortal with either LunaLua or the friendly npc trick.
Because if not you should really do that.

If he made it friendly then it wouldn't be able to hurt you...

OneOf99 has a point here

But you can attach lava or something to the sun.

Or just simply set the sun to be able to hurt you...

They're saying how to make the sun be able to hurt the player and still be invincible.

Why would you want to attach lava, the player can easily die and it's not so easy to know where would be the hitbox and it's size with the legacy editor.

If this level already uses lua, why not directly attach a collider to the sun?

I didn't make the angry sun immortal, because it wasn't immortal in SMB3.
I like how none of these comments are actually about the level

However, I updated the level. The angry sun is now immortal, and the level is slightly easier.

The angry desert REVIEW (with mixed feelings)

Postby ShadowStarX » Tue Mar 29, 2016 9:52 am

The Angry Desert review

Design & Gameplay: Mediocre
+ This level had quite enough creativity and potential to begin with, true it's a different question how it turned out. There is also a decent variety of NPCs.
| This level is kind of enjoyable but I wouldn't really say it's that fun. I found this level too dfficult at times, especially for a desert level and mostly for wrong reasons. The block placement might've been designed around the sun well, but the enemy placement wasn't that well thought-out.
- This level REALLY needs a checkpoint for god's sake... The sand-geysers are quite buggy too. The hammer brother can sometimes glitch out and teleport 16 pixels (half a block) horizontally. Also if you get hurt around there, one of the platforms can generate a cutoff. (floating quicksand in the air, and that can also result in getting stuck) Speaking of the sand geysers, some jumps were difficult, and it's not recommended to have those in an angry-sun level. The second to last quicksand pit can kick back a koopa shell easily, which basically got me an unfair hit. By the way, the level also lacks of powerups, and the combination of the lack of powerups and the checkpoint ruined the most things in the level. You shouldn't have piranha plants in every single pipe and quicksand pit, reduce the amount of them to the half of it. The lakitu at the end is pointless...

Atmosphere & Visuals: Okay
+ I didn't find any clash throughout my playthrough in the level.
| The atmosphere of the level is around average. The music is relatively but not that fitting. The scenery amount is a bit too random, sometimes it's a bit sparse but sometimes a bit more spammy. (well, wouldn't say spammy, just more than necessary)
- If the sand geyser bugs out, then there is going to be a cutoff on the bottom of the geyser. (as mentioned above)

Score: 4/10
A decently mediocre level with some potential
Moved to 'Average'

Thanks for the review. The level didn't have a checkpoint since it was only around a minute long.
