Riding on train

They're not that bad, but they're not that good either.

Riding on train

Postby Wohlstand » Sat Feb 15, 2014 4:53 am

Here you can riding on train, but on roof
Beware of jumping on a moving train! The train goes fast, and the wind will blow, if not enough stability! Hammers exposed wind!

For the preview I recommend to enable god mode, because due to flying past the enemies will be very difficult.
The level has been updated!

I like how you tried to come up with a new type of level, but it's pretty clashy and needs some improvements. Hope you make a update of it though. But it looks fun so I'll maybe download it!

Design- The levels design was a bit bland. It was pretty much just flat, and you couldn't really move at all once the train started going too fast. I was bound to the same train cart. It got really aggravating when trying to jump to another kart but Mario didn't seem to have enough momentum to press further. Also, for some reason, any time I tried talking to peach in the beginning, the game would crash. Hmm... Enemy placement was kind of really aggravating because at my position on the train, they all jump on abruptly and land like, right next to me, and it was very hard to dodge. I was upset when I couldn't get my item to drop when I was on the train whilst it moved :( It just kind of floated away . . .

Scenery- Scenery was okay. There could ave been a lot more scenery to be honest. You know just to brighten up the level, considering I' pretty much bound to a moving object, so I'd like something pretty to look at. The scenery that WAS there however was a it creative, but way to much clashing of all different types of graphics for my liking. The train didn't look too bad, and I can see where you tried to be creative with the scenery you pass by on the train. Section 2 and 3 of the level could have been way more vibrant in my opinion. Very bland.

Replay Value- The replay value I must say, contrary to what you'd think, is average. I'd give this level a go again if it weren't the for the aggravating quirks mentioned above. This level as actually very unique, and I like how you took advantage of the moving layers. You took one thing and took it to a whole new level, and I really liked that.

Misc- The custom gfx weren't so bad, such as the train, the wheels, and the tracks, but all of the areas that had clashing blocks, could/should have been replaced with some custom gfx tat would have been more appropriate for what you trying to attempt rather than trying to meander your way through it using the graphics the game has. The song was amazing and I really loved it! I would really like to know where it is from, because I really did like it. I didn't like the Peach sprite too much either to be honest. I think her regular gfx would have been just fine.

PROS:
-Cool song
-Decent custom gfx (or what there was of)
-Unique story/attempt at something new
-Decent length

CONS:
-No checkpoint
-Too many power-ups i the beginning. 1 or 2 could have been fine. Also, pointless power-ups at the end?
-Not too mobile once on the train (Ironically)
-Annoying enemy placement
-TOO MUCH CLASHING =/
-Needs more scenery

5/10

MOVED TO AVERAGE.

As I write, dangerously to jump on a cart because there is a WIND which blows off Mario back.

As I spoke, I did this level for tests. Now there is an occasion to order scenery, and I will be engaged in it.
-No checkpoint
Is useless to put checkpoint because if something happens, it is necessary to run to the level beginning for start the train. The mechanism of events of SMBX is so arranged that the current status of the worked events doesn't saving.
-Too many power-ups i the beginning. 1 or 2 could have been fine. Also, pointless power-ups at the end?
This level especially difficult for walkthrough because of a large number of springing enemies. Therefore the insurance is necessary. From the beginning and the end I will remove excess power-ups and I optimize layouts of enemies.
-Not too mobile once on the train (Ironically)
Absolutely forgot about a wind
-Annoying enemy placement
I will correct it :D
-TOO MUCH CLASHING =/
I spoke, it will be difficult
-Needs more scenery
As told, I will be engaged in it.

Many thanks for criticism ;-)

Riding on train v2

Postby Wohlstand » Thu Mar 06, 2014 7:05 am

The big update of my "Riding on train" level.

Updated:
- The graphics considerably improved
- Added more scenery
- Placement of enemies is optimized
- Excess Power-UP from the beginning and the level end are cleaned
- Fixed messages

This level without Checkpoint. (Because layer's positions, the checkpoint isn't useful).

Warning, don't jump on during a trip by train, the wind will blow off back.

Merged with your old topic. Updates to levels should be posted in their topics, and then will be moved again if appropriate.

I suggest editing your original post at the top so that people don't have to scroll down to see the new download. Some people may not know that the update is down below.
