Bertie's contest level review
Since this level is vanilla and doesn't focus on atmosphere, I won't seperate blah blah blah atmosphere and gameplay in categories, just have a wall of blah blah blah text as a review.
+ First of all, and most importantly, the level has a fun gameplay, so obviously I enjoyed playing it. Even though it might look like a generic SMB2 level and isn't really mind-blowing, it doesn't feel like an ordinary level that I see thrice a week. The NPC placement is well done, it's not cramped/spammy nor sparse. I also found the level having the right amount of NPC variety. The coin & vegetable placement is good, and the powerup-amount is just alright. I also liked how you put some secret invisible blocks to unhide some coins and other rewards. (even if they didn't add much to the regular fun factor, I still found them cool) The two secret stars also had the perfect placement in my opinion. For the atmosphere, I can only say that I didn't find any clash and avoidable cutoffs. (I don't count the unavoidable ones as flaws and the music obviously fits)
| There could've been a bit bigger BGO variety. (like the smb1 grass wouldn't clash at all)
- This one might be a bit nitpicky, but the first ninji after the checkpoint wasn't a good idea. If the player doesn't know about the ninji, he/she might fall right into the ninji with quite a (relatively) low chance.
Score: 7.77/10
A really enjoyable and nice little level without many flaws noticed
