I thought the boss was pretty good, nice challenge and a nice theme, but you could at least have an effect for when he gets regularly hit, if you can't use a regular effect use an NPC.

PROX's Unofficial Review:
Spoiler: show
I gotta say, this custom boss is one of the best custom bosses I've played. I like the music choice for this level. The bullet bills replacing volcano lotus fireballs were a nice touch. The incorporation of layers and events were cleverly done. There were loads of warning indications which were very nicely done. I do have a few nitpicks however. first off, I think the hit box was a bit too small. There were times where I would throw a projectile at the boss and it would go through the sprite without taking any damage. Also a hurt effect would be very beneficial to this boss since it just disappears after getting hit. Aside from these minor flaws, this boss was very well done.

Score: 9/10

I applaud your usage of layers in this boss. I wish the vulnerable phase of the boss was any challenging though. You can literally stand on the same spot while holding the run button to grab your weapon and hit it.
With all that aside though, it was quite dynamic and decently challenging, though I managed to get a perfect run of it on my first try. 8/10
BTW, which tileset was used in the level?

Mecha Cheep Boss by Darkonius Mavakar - Review

Looks and Atmosphere

As to be expected by a boss level, the looks aren't anything special. However, you manage to make it look an underwater factory with how few you've done, which is good.
The boss does look good, however, it only has 1 frame, which makes it not really fit in with the environment. I feel like if the winding key was animated it'd look way more alive (well, as alive as a mechanical Cheep-Cheep gets). Aside from that, nothing stands out.
The music is decent, nothing special but it gets the job done.

5.5/10

Design and Gameplay (counts double)

For being an underwater boss, this was really decent! However, there are some problems: It wasn't clear to me from the start that you can pick up the "misfired" Bullet Bills, the main reason being that they're still kinda fast. The fact that they're the same speed as the others not only makes it seem weird that just by the fact that they face a different direction and don't damage you, it also makes them quite the hassle to pick up in the first 2 phases. However, this also provides some challenge and you have to observe the boss' pattern, which is good. I also quite like the progression, it seems natural and the parts inbetween the phases are also well-designed. Pretty much my only complaint is that it may be a bit on the short side, however this mainly depends on how you wanna include it in a possible episode/level. However, the core gameplay was really good and it's one of the better underwater bosses I've played!

7/10

Verdict

This is quite the good boss, and it's definitely worth your time, even if it's a bit on the short side.

6.5/10
