Review: Mario's 30th birthday celebration! by Artemis008
{Gameplay: 10Pts | Scenery/Music: 10Pts}
Gameplay:
7 out of 10
It was a short level despite spanning three sections, yes, however this level is by no means bad. If anything I actually enjoyed it quite a bit and it was a little refreshing to head back to the basics of SMB1. ~
Anyway, the level design is flat and basic across all sections however, I don't see it as very detrimental, if at all. Enemy placement also seems to fit very well in this level and no single place feels empty or unfair in terms of getting by it. just as well I may argue you were too generous with power-ups as there are quite a few 1ups scattered around, but this isn't as big of an issue in this case, since most of them are only in the first section and the other two either have none or little.
Oh, and that one pit warp was actually pretty clever. ~
My only real complaint is that while enjoyable, this level feels a bit too short. ~
Scenery/Music:
6.5 out of 10 {3.5Pts Scenery | 3Pts Music}
Scenery usage is decent and while in the second sections I would consider it lacking, the first and third sort of make up for that. The first section feels alive and has a good amount of BGOs. The level looks good and is presented well to the player. ~
For a simple SMB1 level I'd say the music very well checks out.
Conclusion:
13.5 out of 20Pts {6Pts Overall {Rounded from 6.75}}
Really I have little in the way of complaints for this level. It's plays well and it looks pretty good too.
I honestly do think that this level is too short though and if it were longer I could justify a higher score. For what it's worth, this level is by no means bad, but it is by no means perfect. ~
