Adventurer's Road (Remastered)

Postby Squishy Rex » Thu Aug 21, 2014 10:35 pm

Yeah, I decided to just release it. Anyway, it is a first of many levels to be remastered. I originally made this level way back in 2010-2011 and called it Toad Road (dunno why). I've included the original Toad Road level as well so you can play it, though it's not very good at all.

Why the level have Fire Flowers? This is pretty strange because subcon enemies can't be killed with fireballs. And I have seen some wrong slopes.

Fire Flower: I guess I never actually thought that bit through overly well. If anything I'll just change it to an Ice Flower.
Slopes: I can't tell where these "wrong" slopes are, could you point them out please.

Oh I see now. I mustn't have replaced those ones with Sednaiur's ones in the rest of the level. Thankfully, that is a reasonably simple fix and thank you for noticing that.

Ok, thanks, I guess your computer can't view Imgur images. It works for me, but I will upload it to another site later on tonight when I'm on a computer. Also would there be any chance of getting a review for this level. I'm curious to see how well it would rate.

One question, why are the small SMB2 trees at the ground? If I'm not mistaken, the version you posted on the SMBX Screenshots thread HAD trunks.

Other than that looks outstanding, but the big image is a major spoiler IMO.

@bossedit8's Review - Adventurer's Road (Remastered) - Made by @Squishy Rex

Design Usage:
The whole creativity of this Level was amasingly designed. Getting placed at the SMB2 Themed Level Design with even a few secrets to discover too. The whole background placements were very nice and very well decorated, although it would of be a bit more variety to have those regular Palms Trees on this Level too. I know that you used those Leaf background (Top from a Palm Tree and Climbable Tiles) as Bushes but at least gain them also as a regular Palm Tree like what you did with the giant ones. The Music were differently chosed and not with the whole SMB2 regular Themes which was a nice idea to have something else and not only the overused ones. The regular SMB2 Theme fits well also so there is no differences for me anyway. In the secret Room where you can find Coins and a Ace Coin, there are two invisible Coin Blocks to get up to the Ace Coin but I find the secondary invisible Coin Block (the one that is more at the top) unnecessary as you can simply jump up without it (as the player can jump 4 Blocks high). After the Midway Point you have to deal with Platforms which does have a real different variety of one Level so that's pretty Good but one place where it was hard to reach at first, it wasn't completly worth it just for some Coins while a Enemy is spitting out 4 Fireballs. The Levels lentgh was nicely done. There were places where you can Glitch through Walls if you are doing this correctly (Video will show you off about them).

NPC Placements:
The whole NPC Placements were averagely Great. Coin Placements were very nice and I can't tell anything wrong to them but the whole Ace Coins, they do have a lower Score value to gain a '800' at the beginning instead of '1000' but that makes it useless to collect them because now they don't give you a 1UP anymore after the 5th one. At least either add another Ace Coin somewhere in this Level or remove the "score" value in the NPC Codes because collecting them without giving you a 1UP is useless (except for Coins and Points but that isn't completly worthwhile). Enemy placements were alright and they do gain a nice Challenge especially after the Midway Point so I can't really find something to complain about. Power Up Placements were nice and all but the Fire Flower is tecnically useless in the entire Level because your fire power doesn't affect on every single Enemies around the Stage. At least put an Ice Flower or something else somewhere especially at the Secret Room so you have a much higher Chance of defeating Enemies and not only focusing on "grab & toss" without the effect of your fire Power. At least there are some burried Plants to throw at Enemies but I find the whole plugging Plants kind of lacky because there are only Veggies to utulize. At least put something more than just Veggies so you can discover more things in them like a 1UP Mushroom, some useful Power Ups and even more Coins to collect.

Overall Rating Score: 9

The Best

Very nice creative Level with variety and secrets but flaws and other things encountered.

Also, I really like your Image. It shows off everything with one Image including Warping paths and I really like that.

That score seems a bit close cutting IMO, like you didn't want to make it to the best. Sorry if that's offensive but that score is too close for comfort. Yes I did read the whole thing.

This whole Statement was my opinion to this Level anyway.

Edit: Moved to The Best.

Wow, thanks Bossedit8, I never actually expected it to make it to this section, I mean Good at the most, but definitely not The Best.

Stuck In Walls Error: From not yet watching your playthrough, I'm going to assume that these two places would be where the vases go into the mountain. As I still have to update the level with a small block alteration mentioned in one of the earlier posts I'll be sure to fix that as well.
Coins and the Panser of Doom: Yeah, I never saw it that way before, but i see what you mean. Though I don't really want to put a 1-Up there, maybe I'll get rid of the coins instead and leave the Panser there as it seems to act like a good hazard for that space of logs.
It's hard to reach: Yeah, that was mainly only intended for the Ace Coin sizable in the waterfall section, being that you have to use a Ninji as a means of reaching it. I might lower the other platforms to make them easier to reach.
Pointless Block of Invisbility: I will remove that block like I was supposed to before I released the level. That was the one thing I forgot to do.
Level Map: Thanks, that was a little something I made to simulate the maps from NES Maps and to put PlatGEnWohl's full section screenshot feature to good use.

Thanks again Bossedit8!

This is a fascinatingly nice SMB2 level, and I like the background, too, and I must say, the review was fair and the score was fair. Anyways, I hope to see more levels from you in the future, Squishy.
