Melting Magma Mountain

Postby ShadowStarX » Fri Oct 09, 2015 12:28 pm

Hey guys, this level is the part of Super Mario & The Mystery of Bowser's Castle, and I decided to show this level to the community.
This level was going to be my CC12 level, but I scrapped the idea of having this level as my CC entry.

The level has 2 paths and the level splits in the checkpoint room, one of the paths also has a custom boss.
Spoiler: show

Despite being a lava level, it has mid-game difficulty (and it's a W3 level anyway)

I mean, feedback i guess?

REVIEW OF MELTING MAGMA MOUNTAIN BY SHADOWSTARX

DIFFICULTY CURVE
Your difficulty curve in this level is pretty messed up. Before the checkpoint the level is pretty easy and after the checkpoint both of the split Paths have different difficulties. The one with the skull raft and podoboo shoe is definitely more difficult than the one with the rising lava and beezo (That section also has a boss that also has the same problem).

BOSS FIGHT
The boss fight's pretty cool and fun but the difficulty curve problem persists in it, as the first two hits are pretty easy and the last hit is a bit of a difficulty spike. The boss is also slightly hard to jump on and has no way to defend himself at the point of you having to jump on it. Don't get me wrong, the boss was fun and i enjoyed it.

ATMOSPHERE AND GAMEPLAY
The atmosphere is good, the lava that surrounds the whole tiles adds to the atmosphere and makes it feel more real (i mean as real as you can get with a lava cave with floating rocks and stuff). The gameplay was great as each section was unique and fun, except for the part in the podoboo section where you have to precisely jump onto the 1x1 lava blocks that require a lot of precision. The NPC placement is also pretty good in most places, except in a place where you have to precisely jump with lava above your head and there's a big shy guy coming at you.

SCORE:
8/10
If you worked on the difficulty curve and a bit of NPCs this level would be pretty much perfect

Thanks for the feedback Frozen Boo. I think I'm going to make the first half a bit harder and the rest a bit easier (aside from the custom boss fight's first and second part, that won't be changed)

This is a pretty good level, I like it, although there is a difficulty curve.

The second half is twice as hard as the first, that's what I mean.
